Celebrated since 1984 for being one of Vancouver’s most romantic dining and imbibing destinations, the Michelin-recommended Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge — located within Wedgewood Hotel & Spa, the city’s only Relais & Châteaux property — is thrilled to offer two luxurious Valentine’s Day experiences: a special Saint Valentine Afternoon Tea, from February 11 to 12, 2024; a four-course Valentine’s Day Dinner on February 14, 2024. Each experience is a beautiful showcase of Bacchus’s world-renowned culinary excellence, courtesy of executive chef Stefan Hartmann, pastry chef Samson Iza-Fellows, and general manager and wine director Edward Sweetman.

And for those who want to indulge in an extra extravagant celebration, Wedgewood Hotel & Spa has launched a new Celebration Package, complete with sparkling wine, chocolate dipped strawberries, and a $100 food and beverage credit to Bacchus (or room service), perfect for a Valentine staycation.

“Romance has been central to Bacchus’s intimate and timeless atmosphere,” says Elpie Marinakis, co-owner and managing director of Wedgewood Hotel & Spa. “We are especially excited as this will be Chef’s Hartmann’s first Valentine’s Day with us, and he has curated an excellent dinner menu and special Afternoon Tea with his team.”

Chef Hartmann’s Valentine’s Day menu ($175++ per person) begins with an amuse of Tuna Tartare served atop freshly baked Brioche with Crouton and Crispy Capers; followed by appetizers of Charred Hokkaido Scallops or BelGioioso Burrata, and Green Pea Risotto or Lobster Consommé; a main of Merlot-Braised Beef Short RibsMaple-Glazed Sablefish, or Parmesan Dumplings (vegetarian); and concludes with Passionfruit Crème Pavlova and Macarons for dessert. Curated wine pairings may be added for $65 per person.

Valentine’s Afternoon Tea ($72 per person) features a delicious selection of romantically-themed savoury and sweet delights, including finely cut gourmet sandwiches; house-made pastries, sweets and cakes; and premium black, green and herbal teas. Guests can also select to add on caviar service and sparkling cocktails.

“I look forward to my first Valentine’s Day here at Bacchus, and have designed a menu we hope will provide guests with a truly memorable experience,” adds Hartmann.

Reservations are highly recommended for both experiences. Book yours now at www.wedgewoodhotel.com.

After a ten-year hiatus, a beloved international icon is making its Canadian comeback. On Tuesday, January 30th, the McRib® returns to Canada, and will be available at participating McDonald’s restaurants nationwide for a limited time.

The elusive sandwich has become a favourite amongst loyal brand fans over the years, reaching icon status. The last time the McRib was available on Canadian menus was 2014.

The McRib starts with a tender and juicy boneless pork patty dipped in tangy BBQ sauce, topped with slivered onions and tasty pickles, all served on a toasted homestyle bun.  It’s no surprise this sandwich is an icon, with its uniquely delicious balance of sweet, tangy and savoury flavours.

“In the last year alone, our team received thousands of inquiries on social media from very passionate Canadian McRib fans asking to bring it back here,” said Alyssa Buetikofer, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at McDonald’s Canada. “The McRib is truly a fan favourite. It appeals to guests of all ages—from loyal followers who have patiently waited a decade for its return, to our newer fans who have only heard the legend.”

McDonald’s Canada has a proud legacy of serving guests delicious food and fun, feel-good moments. The return of the McRib is another way the brand is giving guests even more of the food that they love. And though the wait might be over, time is fleeting. Like anything of true perfection and beauty, the McRib will only be here for a limited time.

Canadians should try the McRib while they can to experience it for themselves at a participating McDonald’s restaurant, through the McDonald’s app, at the Drive-Thru or via McDelivery®.

Things are heating up as Subway® Canada announces two all-new menu items dreamed up with the help of Toronto Raptors’ Scottie Barnes and Chris Boucher. Following the introduction of Scottie’s self-proclaimed “Bowlway” menu in 2022, the new Jerk-Spiced Chicken Rice Bowl and Jerk-Spiced Steak Rice Bowl are inspired by both players’ Caribbean heritage and their personal taste preferences and are now available nationwide.

“Jerk chicken is one of the most popular dishes in Jamaica, and with my dad being Jamaican, I grew up loving it,” says Barnes. “When you think jerk chicken, you think of spices like chili peppers and allspice, which really come through in Subway’s Jerk-Spiced Chicken Bowl, which pairs perfectly with the other bowl ingredients.”

Scottie’s Jerk-Spiced Chicken Rice Bowl features some of his favourite ingredients, like banana peppers and rotisserie-style chicken, while Chris’s Jerk-Spiced Steak Rice Bowl includes his favourite flavour pairing, steak and cheese. Both will combine a cool, crunchy hit of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and crispy onions for unparalleled flavour and topped with a hit of jerk aioli.

“The food I eat plays a massive role in maintaining my competitive edge, and Subway has always been a go-to for a quick, complete, and delicious meal,” says Boucher. “The Jerk-Spiced Steak Rice Bowl features my favourite combo – steak and cheese – and helps me stay focused on and off the court.”

Entering a New Era of Bowlway

Alongside the new bowls, Scottie and Chris will be featured in upcoming TV spots that see them go from baller to bowler status while welcoming Canadians to a new era of Bowlway.

Inspired by Scottie’s love of bowling (after all, he’s the winner of the Barnes family bowling competition!), hungry bowl aficionados can now bowl like Scottie and Chris – and even win the title of ‘Canada’s Most Ballin’ Bowler.’

To celebrate Scottie and Chris’s bowler status and the delicious new bowls, Subway Canada is announcing a nationwide search for Canada’s Most Ballin’ Bowler, with winners set to have the opportunity to bowl with the pair, as well as win tickets to a Toronto Raptors game at Scotiabank Arena later this month. *

“Subway Canada is passionate about bringing Canadians closer to the sports they love,” says Lisa Mazurkewich, Head of Marketing at Subway Canada. “When we learned that Scottie is an avid bowler and the three-time winner of the Barnes family bowling competition we knew we wanted to highlight his passion for the game – and bring an element of fun for Canadians to participate in. We’re excited to continue evolving our menu with tastes that Canadians are after – and bring them unique opportunities with some beloved NBA stars.”

From now until January 17th, Canadians can show how they channel their inner ballin’ bowler by sharing videos or pictures on Instagram with the hashtag #BowlwayBaller. From weird and wacky to eye-popping bowling ‘fits, Subway Canada is looking for bowlers of all styles to show their stuff.
