Wendy’s Canada: The Plantiful Plant-based Burger Review

Wendy’s Canada has released their own plant-based burger called The Plantiful Burger. A lot of other fast food chains have partnered with Beyond Meat to create their plant-based patties for them, but Wendy’s did not. I was passing by and saw this new offering, so I had to check it out for myself to see how it compares to other options out there like A&W’s Beyond Meat Burger. Tim Horton’s Beyond Meat Burger didn’t last long as it was a limited time offering which they decided not to continue.

The Plantiful is marketed for flexitarians rather than vegetarians or vegans.

Not sure how long The Plantiful will be on the menu at Wendy’s, but they have said its for a limited time only.

What’s in the Plantiful Burger?

Inside the Plantiful burger is the Plantiful patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, ketchup, and mayo on a toasted bun.

Is it vegan?

The burger is not vegan, so you would need to omit the mayo and cheese. There isn’t a guarantee that it hasn’t touched other burgers on the grill either. The ketchup also can be cross contaminated with mayo if they use the same utensil.

What’s in the Plantiful Patty?

There’s not much info about the plantiful patty that they have created.

They list these ingredients on their website:

Water, Pea protein concentrate, Canola oil, Coconut oil, Modified cellulose, Carrot fiber, Yeast extract, Cornstarch, Pea hull fiber, Salt, Rice flour, Dehydrated vegetables (beet, onion, garlic), Tapioca dextrin, Methionine, Tryptophan, Potato maltodextrin, Flavour, Smoke flavour, Vitamins and minerals (potassium chloride, magnesium citrate, iron phosphate, niacinamide, zinc oxide, cyanocobalamin, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, copper sulfate, riboflavin, folic acid).

Taste Test

What makes Wendy’s unique is their soft and succulent square beef patties. The Plantiful Patty is round and really lacks flavour. It’s pretty bland and doesn’t add much to the burger beside texture. The lettuce adds a nice crunch to the burger and the bun is toasted nicely too.

I’ve had a lot of plant-based patties before but this wasn’t anything special. I wouldn’t go out of my way for The Plantiful Burger. Their regular burgers are more superior and the plantiful patty just doesn’t live up to the taste.

Final Thoughts

As this burger is advertised for flexitarians, it’s too bad it’s very limiting to vegans. It would be hard to go to Wendys and get The Plantiful Burger rather than their other items.

It wasn’t delicious enough to make the switch.

  1. Their ketchup has eggs?! I hope that a typo!! Otherwise that would be insane as there are people out there severely allergic to eggs 😢

Let me rephrase that. It’s the cross contamination of the ketchup and mayo as sometimes they use the same utensil.

  2. I just chowed down this Plantiful burger. Diana’s pretty bang on about her taste test. It is rather bland. Unwrapping the foil, I discover a slab of dry uninviting so-called meat staring straight into my face begging me to devour it. My take on this… I would it eat only if they reduce the price. It costs more than the basic combo. I’d only spend more when it tastes WAY better than the ordinary basic standard food that they serve. Okay, time to eat their half-half Frosty, which is by far the best food item on their menu.

  3. That looks like a burger from the worst fast food place ever 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

  4. I thought the burger was actually better than the beyond burger. It didnt leave an after taste like the beyond burger

  5. Tastes awful
    Wasted $10
Love Wendy’s but not this shitty burger

  6. Just tried this burger. Tastes amazing compared to vege burgers from McDs, Harvey’s, and A&W, although a&w is amazing for the fresh toppings I find the beyond meat a bit dry and chewy and the flavour is alright. Plantiful burger from Wendy’s might just be my fave yet!

  7. Trying to quit eating meat due to all the animal cruelty involved I keep hearing about. This is a great burger!. I’m really glad Wendy’s started selling this! I ordered the Plantiful without mayo and Cheese and it was great! Highly recommend.

  8. This was great! I’d eat it again . My 1st plant based burger. Just knowing it’s made from beans, I don’t expect it to taste like beef.
The hard part was waiting 8 minutes for it on my short lunch break. But, I feel good. So that’s what matters most.
