MudLrk Shiitake Mushroom Chips: Review

MudLrk was founded in 2018 with a desire to eat more plant based foods like mushrooms. With the environment, design and food innovation – Shiitake Mushroom Chips was born by founder Trace Ostergren.

Shiitake mushrooms are no stranger to Asian culture and has been eaten for over 3,500 year in soups, stews, and an array of dishes. My family has been using dehydrated shiitake mushrooms in our cooking, so when we saw that there were mushroom chips, we were so curious how they would taste.

MudLrk scavenges for quality shiitake mushrooms and fry them in a low-temperature, add their seasoning blends, and finally bag the shiitake chips with non-petroleum compostable materials. They come in 4 flavours – original, black pepper, mustard, and spicy buffalo. It is also gluten-free, cholesterol free, non-GMO, preservative free, and high in fibre.

Original Shiitake Mushroom Chips

The original Shiitake mushroom chips have a nice crunch to the mushroom and isn’t overly salted. A good amount where you can still taste the subtleties of the shiitake.

Black Pepper Shiitake Mushroom Chips

If you want a little bit more added spice to your mushroom chips, there is the black pepper. It isn’t overly spiced, which is nice.

Mustard Shiitake Mushroom Chips

You can see the yellow mustard spice on the chips. A good sweet mustard flavour that compliments it nicely. My husband liked this flavour the most and ate it pretty quickly.

Spicy Buffalo Shiitake Mushroom Chips

The last flavour of the bunch is the spicy buffalo. It has the vibrant orange look in the seasoning. It has a mild kick to it but not very spicy at all. It reminds me of Frank’s Red Hot Sauce.
