Loz Takos: An Urban Taqueria in Langley, Coquitlam, and Vancouver

Loz Takos is an urban taqueria serving up items like tacos, torta, burrito, , bowls, quesadillas, burritos, and ensalada. They want to to close the gap there is between non-authentic Mexican food and true Mexican street food making it available throughout Canada.

You can currently find them in Langley and Coquitlam with more locations to come. The next location is slated to be near Vancouver General Hospital.

We were invited to check out their space as well as their different menu items.

Interior

As Loz Takos is still very new, the space was new and very clean. Very modern look with wood, concrete and metal accents.

There is seating on the left and you can order on the right.

Menu

Tacos

For the taco order, you start by selecting the protein.

  • Asada de res [grilled steak]
  • Pollo asado [grilled chicken]
  • Barbacoa de res [pulled beef]
  • Chorizo c/papa [mxn chorizo with potatoes]
  • Tinga de pollo [chipotle chicken]
  • Carnitas [pulled pork]
  • Tinga de vegetables [chipotle vegetables]

Of course being the foodies that we are, we got one each. The proteins come on 2 small round soft taco skins, and you can then top it off with toppings of your choice like salsa, jalapeños, pickled onions, and cilantro.

The tacos are filling as there are 2 tortilla skins per taco. The meats were all pretty good but after a while it was hard to tell them apart. Nonetheless, they were all generally good and solid.

Sauce

They also have a bunch of sauces you can add on, one of them is called “The killer”. We definitely avoided that one. Avocado sauce is a popular choice.

Grilled Chicken Quesadilla

This was packed with cheese and chicken. Nice grill marks on the outside. You can’t really go wrong with this combination.

Burrito Bowl

For the burrito bowl, we got half grilled chicken and half grilled steak. It has seasoned rice and black beans, then topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. One of our favourite items to order as you get more bang for your buck with the burrito bowls. We did enjoy the meat combinations too but felt the chicken and steak were a bit on the dry side.

Tortilla Soup

It had a nice depth of flavour and a hint of spice. A good accompaniment with your meal. It is also topped with fried tortilla strips.

Chips and Guacamole

The chips are made from fried tortilla and its nice and crunchy. Of course you have to get guacamole with it.

Horchata

Horchata is a traditional non-alcoholic Mexican drink made of cinnamon, almonds, sesame seeds, rice and barley. It’s one of our favourite go-to drinks. It was really good – sweet and milky.

Drinks

They sell Jarritos, which is some pretty good soda. There is also Mexican Coca Cola, which is made with cane sugar. All good options that go with the food here.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Loz Takos is decent for a quick bite and reminds us of Chipotle.

It’s good to have more options in Langley and in Coquitlam Centre with Loz Takos. We know they are trying to stick to Mexican roots, but felt that there could have been more topping options for the different items on the menu. As for the prices, they are very standard.
