Sometimes we savour bubble tea for so long that we leave it in the fridge. Most of the time, we somehow forget about it and the pearls turn hard. The texture has changed and you have to throw them out.

There is a way to revive them so you can enjoy them without throwing them out. I was quite stumped when a friend asked me what to do about day old pearls. I didn’t have a clue.

Paragon Tea Room in Vancouver suggested to steam them! It’s brilliant and makes so much sense.

Steam them!

  1. Fill up steamer with water and bring to a boil.
  2. Put day old pearls/boba on a plate/bowl and add it to the steaming rack.
  3. Steam for a few minutes until pearls become warm and soft.
  4. Let pearls cool down for a bit and add them back to your drink.

It’s a fantastic way to bring the pearls back up to temperature without them losing their structure. If you have some leftover bubble tea in your fridge with pearls and boba, give this method a try.

  1. It’s what I like to do w frozen steamed baos. I steam them and it becomes soft and fluffy again!! If you microwave it, it turns chewy – major turnoff. That little extra work of getting out the steamer and wait for 10min is sooo worth it!!

  2. Works wonders i tried it and the pearls are chewy again. I don’t have a steamer so i just put them in a pan with a little bit of water and a lid and it did the job

  3. This turned out so good, It made my overnight tapioca pearls BETTER THAN IT WAS BEFORE! it made it sticky, soft and appetizing again! When I ate the overnight Tapioca pearls without the recovery it tasted like a orbeez and had the texture and structure of it that was marinated in some type of juice. TYSM for this post. My mom would get so mad at me if I let her know that the new batch of tapioca pearls got hard and disgusting. Such a life saver!

  4. This absolutely works. Just steamed my day old pearls for 5 mins, let cool, then added back to my cold drink. Thank you so much for sharing this tip! Saved me from tossing out my bubble tea.
