McDonalds

Rock n Roll McDonalds is their Flagship store in Chicago, Illinois. It’s quite famous and attracts lots of tourist every year. It’s a few blocks away from the Magnificent Mile. What makes this location unique is that its 3 times the size of a normal McDonalds, has a Rock n Roll Exhibit and a mini McDonalds Museum.

McDonalds

Near the entrance, there are a few statues there that you can pose and take pictures with.

McDonalds

Peek-a-boo! It’s Ronald McDonald and I. Of course I had to take some fun pictures with those statues.

McDonalds

The bottom floor has lots of seating and the counter to order food. Stairs and escalators are located in the middle of the floor that leads to the 2nd floor.

McDonalds

Upstairs is the McCafe serving lattes, gelato, and baked goods. It’s very relaxing, so you could spend a lot of time just chilling here because there is so much natural light. I saw a few people just on their laptops working here.

McDonalds

On the second floor, there is a little Museum area where you can view old memorabilia. I remember collecting all those Inspector Gadget toys too.

On the walls are stories about the McDonalds Franchise.

Overall, it was a pretty cool location with awesome memorabilia to look at. If you’re a tourist, it’s a fun place to just stop by and have a snack. It’ll probably be one of the best looking McDonalds you’ve been to.

Original Rock 'n' Roll McDonald's on Urbanspoon

Hello, this is M, back with another fast food review.

Triple O’s #SecretMenu

This time, I went to Triple O’s to try out their new #secretmenu which includes the “Triple Triple Burger combo”.

First of all, it was difficult to even find a Triple O’s that wasn’t pure take out. The locations I knew of in Robson and Davie, were both closed. Google Maps showed that there was one in Bentall Centre, so I took 3 of my co-workers on an epic journey into a place we all never went to.

Triple O’s #SecretMenu

The Triple Triple burger ($9.99) is named after it’s triple patty and triple cheese composition. I believe that each patty is a quarter pound, so basically you’re eating a 3/4 pounder burger.

Triple O’s #SecretMenu

I brought 3 guys with me and split the 2 burgers in half and it was filling enough.

The burger was technically good, because I’m a fan of Triple O sauce and saucieness of their burgers. The bun was really boring and normal, the lettuce was sliced, and the tomato didn’t contribute anything to the burger.

The fries were atrocious! One of the worst fries in a fast food chain. It was stale tasting and needed globs of ketchup to wolf it down.

Triple O’s #SecretMenu

The Triple Triple is basically a burger that has nothing but the size going for it.

If you asked me 3+ years ago, I would have loved the idea of big burgers. However, now I know it doesn’t matter the size of the burger, but the quality of the ingredients and the taste of pure ground beef that is the most important thing in an amazing burger. I’d take a single Triple O’s burger any day, the Triple Triple just felt like an indulgence, and it wasn’t a good one.

To be fair, out of all the Triple patty burgers, the Triple Triple was one of the best for the fast food category of burgers. Triple O’s burgers are probably the “softest” burgers in the fast food business, that is the bun is soft, the lettuce is sliced, and it’s super saucy. In that aspect, it’s easy to eat fast and leaves you feeling full.

Happy Meal Minion

Minions have invaded McDonalds all around the world. Starting this month, you’ll be able to snag up 8 adorable Despicable Me 2 toys. They are available in Canada, Philippines, Indonesia, USA, UK, Austria, Australia, Brazil, Panama, Mexico, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Romania, Portugal, Latvia, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Guatemala, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Taiwan. Perhaps there is more, but I have no clue.

It took myself, my sister and a few friends to get our hands on at least 4 of them. Then…someone had to take a trip to the states to find more to complete the set. We were a bit obsessive, but it’s the hunt and chase that’s the most fun. We could have easily bought it the set off eBay for $20 but that’s  just cheating. Even people on Facebook are coordinating how to get certain toys and giving each other tips on which locations to go to. I haven’t been this excited about McDonald Toys since the 90s.

Happy Meal Minion

Happy Meals have changed since I was a kid. They used paper bags and had a limited amount of options for your meal. These days, you have more “healthier” options (kinda, not really).

Choice of Entree:

  • Chicken McNuggets (4 pcs)
  • Chicken Snack Wrap
  • Cheeseburger
  • Hamburger
  • Grilled Cheese

Choice of side:

  • Mini Fries
  • Small Fries
  • Apple Slices with Caramel Dip

Choice of Drink:

  • 1% White Milk
  • Chocolate Milk
  • Child-sized Soft Drink
  • Juice

All meals come with a toy and yogurt. All for $3.99 before tax. No age limit too. I’m a big kid and I totally deserve a Happy Meal once in a while.

Happy Meal Minion

The tiny fries are so cute in the little container. It’s really a meal meant for little kids.

This location didn’t have the minion toys which sucked, but I still liked my meal. If you get toys on their own, it’s about $2. If you’re on the hunt for the minions, I think it’ll save your health if you buy the toy without the meal.

Happy Meal Minion

The best part of the nuggets is the infamous boot-shaped nugget. It still makes me wonder why they ever decided to make it look like that.

There’s even a website just for Happy Meals: http://www.happymeal.com

What crazy thing did you do to acquire those minion toys?

McDonalds Canada launched their New Signature McWraps with 3 different varieties – Chicken & Bacon, Sweet Chili, and Fiesta. A few weeks ago, a lot of the locations were doing 50% promotional deals to tell people about the new product. I was a bit intrigued when they launched this since I would have never though McDonalds would create such a product.

It costs $4.99 per wrap. You can find it at all McDonalds in Canada.

McDonalds Canada New Signature McWrap

The McWrap comes in a large box and we were initially excited since we didn’t expect it to be that large. For $4.99 it didn’t look like a bad deal.

McDonalds Canada New Signature McWrap

When we opened the box, the wrap was hidden in the bottom. 1/3 of the box was empty. It reminded me of a bag of chips where the packaging is misleading. No one wants to pay for air.

McDonalds Canada New Signature McWrap

We chose the Chicken & Bacon McWrap ($4.99) with the option of the crispy chicken instead of the grilled chicken. This wrap also has bacon, tomato, lettuce, monterey jack cheese ,mayonnaise and wrapped up in a whole wheat tortilla. It tasted good and a nice alternative to the burgers at McDonalds.

If you want it to be a healthier option, you should get it grilled.

What you tried this? What are your thoughts?

Tim Hortons Thick Cut Bacon

Tim Hortons recently introduced their new Thick Cut Hickory Smoked Bacon on March 12, 2013. They have really made a large push to show their customers that their bacon has changed. They even created a bacon mascot called ‘Evan‘ to personify it’s change.

I do frequent Tim Hortons on a regular basis as it is a block away from work. I do admit, sometimes I can have a love affair with bacon. I always order the same thing….the Turkey Bacon Club with a soup and a double double. Luckily, I happen to come here before and after they made the bacon switch. Lets see if there is really a difference in their bacon.

March 11, 2013 – Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons Thick Cut Bacon

I Instagram every meal, so even if I don’t blog about it, I have a log of what I eat. The Turkey Bacon Club with Turkey and Wild Rice Soup with a double double.

Tim Hortons Thick Cut Bacon

As we take a closer look at the bacon, there are 2 strips and stacked up in the center. Looks pretty firm as well. I remember it tasting like any other TIm Hortons experience. Decent and got me through the afternoon.

April 09, 2013 – Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons Thick Cut Bacon

This time I had the Turkey Bacon Club with Turkey and Chicken Noodle Soup with a double double. From this time, you can definitely see more of the bacon protruding out, but thats not a clear sign of the bacon being any better or thicker.

Tim Hortons Thick Cut Bacon

This time around, the staff made the sandwich a little bit sloppy. The bacon is more visible, but it’s clearly not as cooked as before. It’s for flimsy. I like my bacon harder.

Tim Hortons Thick Cut Bacon

From another angle, you can see the bacon is still quite thin. If the new bacon is going to be thicker, it really doesn’t show.

I am going off my experiences from this particular location in Vancouver. It didn’t resemble the imagery of the bacon on their promotions and the taste of the overall sandwich was the same.

Do you find any difference with their bacon during your experience?

Tim Hortons on Urbanspoon

Whenever we’re at the food court, we kinda like to see what new products are being created by fast food chains. It’s kind of a weird obsession of mine. Also, Arby‘s is one of my favorite fast food chains. Seriously, those curly fries are so good. I’m sure you know what I mean. Who can make curly fries better than Arby’s?

There is only 1 country that McDonalds sells curly fries and that’s in the Philippines…but they call them twister fries.

Arby's Loaded Curly Fries

They just introduced the Loaded Curly Fries. It has Arby’s signature curly fries, topped with creamy cheddar cheese sauce, sour cream and bacon bits. At first, I was quite skeptical of this item, it’s like a weird version of a baked potato but with curly fries.

I didn’t really notice too much amazement from the additional toppings since the curly fries are still the main spectacle of the dish.

Have you tried the Loaded Curly Fries yet?

Wendys Son of Baconator

When it comes to fast food, I love the stuff. We all know Wendy’s famous Baconator – a tower of bacon strips, cheese and 2 quarter pounder patties. Sometimes that burger is way too big and has so much meat. Wendy’s came up with a new alternative called ‘Son of Baconator’. It is essentially a smaller version of the baconator with smaller patties.

Wendys Son of Baconator

Son of Baconator has 2 small patties, 2 cheddar cheese slices, 4 bacon strips, ketchup, and mayo. It was way smaller than the baconator, but its a good choice if you aren’t too hungry.

Wendys Son of Baconator

Poutine has canadian cheese curds, and loads of gravy on top of their fries. Obviously not the best poutine, but it was alright.

After ordering the combo, I was stuffed! I really do enjoy Wendy’s for their fast food. Much fresher ingredients than some of the other fastfood chains out there.

Do you love the baconator? or the Son of Baconator?

Mc Donalds Raspberry Pie

McDonalds Canada is always churning out different pies. The past 2 pies introduced were the caramel pie and oreo pie. They never stick around for a long time, so this is also available for a limited amount of time.

The Raspberry pie was very sweet and tart. It just seemed like it was like a pie filled with jam. It doesn’t taste very good on its own, but definitely tastes better with a coffee and tea.

Have you tried this yet?

Mc Donalds

Going to the Seattle Premium Outlets gives me a chance to visit McDonalds and Wal-Mart to have a taste of food not available in Canada. Instead of 40 Piece McNuggets, I scanned the menu to find the Hot ‘n Spicy McChicken. I thought this was pretty cool, so I ordered it.

Mc Donalds

The Combo with a drink and fries were around $5. Once I received the order, the burger was quite small. I was disappointed.

Mc Donalds

The Hot n’ Spicy McChicken patty was definitely dry, but it did have the extra spicy kick. It was passable, but not as good as their other burgers.

Mc Donalds

Fries are always good, but who can resist McDonalds fries?

M here with a flash review of the new Carl’s Jr. in Vancouver! I’m always on the hunt for the best burgers in town, but my favourite fast food burger in the States is from Carl’s Jr. When it was announced Carl’s Jr. was coming to Vancouver I passed out in excitement. Diana will do a proper review soon, but for now here are my pointers.

1

If this is your first time at a Carl’s Jr. it will be daunting to see all the choices you have! My suggestion for newbies and for future converts of the Church of Carl’s Jr. are any of the Thick burgers. In the State’s they’re popular as the “Six Dollar Burger” and is a signature for Carl’s Jr. The one I had is the Guacomole Bacon one. I’m happy to announce that the burger was as delicious as the one across the border!

2

ProTip number one for this place is bring an empty stomach and always order SMALL. The cashier can be tricky and ask you, “Medium or large combo?” Just like Wendy’s don’t get Medium as that’s basically getting a Large at McDonalds here. It’s also 90 cents more if you choose Medium. Trust me Small will fill you up! The venue itself is super narrow and I think stupidly laid out, but the burgers more than enough makes up for it. There are rumours that the staff here is undertrained, so try to be patient as someone goes around yelling a number. Keep in mind this is a Fast Food place, so it does give off a Burger King feel. Nonetheless, it’s the best fast food burger in town in my opinion from trying their burger once.

Dining Terrace

Last year, the Dining Terrace in Richmond Centre opened revealing it’s $30 million, 44,000 square foot eating area. I’ve heard lots about it but since I live in Burnaby, I don’t really spend much time in Richmond. My parents took me here to eat lunch as we were meeting up with relatives. We decided to stop at the Dining Terrace so I could take a look and have a quick lunch.

Dining Terrace

There are 18 new food vendors and they are:

  • Opa!
  • A&W
  • U-Grill
  • Curry Express
  • Edo Japan
  • New York Fries
  • Thai Express
  • Umi
  • Pinkberry
  • Quiznos
  • Bourbon St. Grill
  • KFC
  • GoodAh Grill
  • Jugo Juice
  • Kung Pao Wok
  • Crepe De licious
  • Vina

These food vendors are quite typical of most food courts in the Lower Mainland. It still doesn’t compare to the Aberdeen food court for sure.

Dining Terrace

There’s a lot of seating and the interior looks really really nice.

Dining Terrace

All of the food vendors can be found at other food courts around the Lower Mainland as well, but they make these places look really nice.

Dining Terrace

Some of them have really vibrant and bold colors.

UMI Japanese Eatery & Udon Bar

Dining Terrace

Umi Sushi Express has several locations across Canada and serve Japanese food. This location is a bit unique from their other family of restaurants since it serves hot food. Their other locations have ready-to-serve items like sushi.

Dining Terrace

I ordered the chicken bento box and it has chicken teriyaki, a small salad, deep-fried veggie tempura and 4 California rolls. It’s not amazing Japanese food, but its passable food court quality.

Crepe De Licious

Dining Terrace

Crepe De Licious is located in the center of the food court across from Pinkberry. They have savory and sweet crepes. They even have breakfast crepes too. I really wanted a breakfast crepe but it was the lunch hour so they didn’t serve it anymore.

Dining Terrace

My sister ordered a Black + White Crepe, which is Nutella and bananas as the filling.

Dining Terrace

She also added a scoop of ice cream on top. It was quite a filling crepe and she really enjoyed it. But then again, who can resist Nutella? I know I can’t.

A&W Spicy Chipotle Chubby Chicken Burger

I always enjoy fast food and one day I was passing by the food court and saw A&W had a new burger! The Spicy Chipotle Chubby Chicken Burger looked delicious and isn’t one of their usual “family” burgers. Some of their chicken burgers do taste great!

They even renovated a lot of their food court locations to represent their new branding.

A&W Spicy Chipotle Chubby Chicken Burger

The A&W Spicy Chipotle Chubby Chicken Burger contains tomato, lettuce, chipotle mayo, cheddar cheese with jalapeño, the chubby chicken burger on a ciabatta bun. It was quite messy to eat since the chicken patty just wanted to slide out of the bun. The chicken was very moist and blended nicely with the chipotle sauce.

A&W Spicy Chipotle Chubby Chicken Burger

I upgraded it to a combo with onion rings, which makes it a bit expensive. Root Beer and onion rings are a must to complete the whole A&W experience.

McDonalds USA

When CanuckGirl and I go to Seattle, we usually stop by a McDonalds. She loves her cheap McNuggets and I love reviewing items that are different the McDonalds Canada.

Since it is the holidays, McDonalds released a few holiday items like the Peppermint Mocha and the Peppermint McFlurry. Also the CBO Sandwich intrigued me.

McDonalds USA

Grilled Chicken CBO Sandwich is 480 calories and has slices of cheese, the grilled chicken, bacon, sauteed onions, and sauce.

McDonalds USA

The sandwich was really good and all the ingredients made it a very creamy experience. The sauteed onions really make this sandwich awesome. So yummy!

McDonalds USA

Peppermint Mocha is different from the ones offered in Canada. The US version just has chocolate drizzle as the Canadian one has peppermint pieces on top. It tasted OK, but nothing very amazing at all.

McDonalds USA

Holiday Mint Mcflurry has swirls of reduced fat soft serve vanilla ice cream blended with peppermint candy pieces. CanuckGirl thought it was OK. She was craving something cold and sweet.

Have you tried any of these unique items?

Chipotle Sign Vancouver

My last taste of Chipotle Mexican Grill was the past Summer in New York. I have been left Chipotle-less for 6 months and when I got word that Chipotle was coming to Vancouver, I jumped for joy and so did my friends. We are a bit nuts, so once, we actually drove to Seattle just for Chipotle. When Chipotle invited me for a preview of the restaurant the night before the December 13th, 2012 opening, I had to say yes!

Chipotle Vancouver is the 6th location in Canada. After a successful launch in Toronto with 5 restaurants, it was time for them to come to Vancouver. Even though this is the first location in Downtown Vancouver, there are plans to expand to bring in more locations. There is no word on when or where, but expect more Chipotle locations in the near future.

All their ingredients are local and organic, so it is not 100% the same as the other Chipotle locations around the world.

Chipotle Vancouver

The Vancouver location has huge windows so you can see everyone inside enjoying their meal.

Chipotle Vancouver

They have some funky seating in the front.

Chipotle Vancouver

The interior has lots of seating and each table is lit up with light overhead.

Chipotle Vancouver

The high tables have bag hooks! BAG HOOKS! As a woman with a purse, it’s very important to have those since it’s kinda gross putting your bag on the floor. Or if you have shopping bags, it works wonders too.

Chipotle Vancouver

You start by picking your type of item, then protein, and then all the filler to go inside. All basic items are $8.95. Guacamole is $2.21, which in my opinion is quite expansive…but it is real avocado.

Chipotle Vancouver

Line up on the right side of the restaurant and work your way down the line as you create your perfect meal. The staff is very friendly and can help if you have questions.

Chipotle Vancouver

Chipotle Vancouver

Depending on your item, you can choose white rice or brown rice, then pinto or black beans.

Chipotle Vancouver

The hard part is choosing the protein – chicken, steak, carnitas, or barbacoa.

Chipotle Vancouver

Then you can add a variety of salsa from mild, medium, and hot. Throw on some sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. Remember, the guacamole is extra.

Chipotle Vancouver

Depending on what you add-on after you build your burrito, it can cost you anywhere between $10 and $20. On the bright side they offer beer and margarita too. If you have kids, there is a kids menu too. I wish I was a kid sometimes.

Chipotle Vancouver

The drink fountain is on the side.

Chipotle Vancouver

If you are not in the mood for sugary pop, they have unsweetened tea. I keep thinking this is water, but it’s not.

Chipotle Vancouver

Don’t forget your napkins, it will come in handy! There are also variations of Tabasco sauce for you to add a kick to your meal.

Chipotle Vancouver

Chips ($1.20)

Chipotle Vancouver

You can also add guac or salsa dips for a small charge.

Chipotle Vancouver

Burrito ($8.95) cross-section looks like that. I couldn’t suggest you eat it like this unless you were sharing with a friend. It would definitely get messy.

Chipotle Vancouver

M made his burrito without any vegetables, just rice, pinto beans, hot salsa, and steak. Sometimes it good to forget about the vegetables and ask for more rice, beans and salsa. You really can make your burrito anyway you like!

Chipotle Vancouver

Soft Shell Tacos ($8.95) comes in 3 pieces. @Cruzpresso ordered his with all the same ingredients, but you can have different proteins in each taco if you preferred.

Chipotle Vancouver

Hard Shell Taco ($8.95) comes in 3 pieces too. It’s a bit hard to eat if you are a messy eater. Remember to grab some napkins.

Chipotle Vancouver

Salad ($8.95) has the lettuce underneath and all the toppings piled on top! The protein that came with this item was the steak. It’s chewy like a steak but it deliciously marinated.

Chipotle Vancouver

Bowl ($8.95) + Guacamole ($2.21) I added carnitas meat and everything except the cheese  into my bowl.

Chipotle vancouver

Thats what the inside of the bowl looks like. It was delicious and oh so filling.

Chipotle vancouver

Chicken Bowl ($8.95) minus the lettuce haha.

Chipotle vancouver

The chicken is hiding under all the ingredients. The chicken was quite tasty and flavourful.

Chipotle Vancouver

We ate everything except for the kid’s meal or the vegetarian options. Burritos and bowls are quite popular! You can’t go wrong with any of the meats either. My person favorite item is the bowl with the barbacoa. It’s a good place to go if you are particular about your food. It’s very customizable to how you want it made.

If you are used to the Chipotle in the US, just know…the portions look smaller and you are paying about $2 more.

It’s great to have Chipotle in Vancouver, BC but it is quite similar to Red Burrito. In the end, the whole table agreed that Chipotle did taste better and they are dedicated to bring in good ingredients that are local, fresh, organic, and have no synthetic hormones.

Pizza Hut Canada finally introduced the Hot Dog Stuffed Crust after a successful launch in the UK and US. When the Vancouver Social Media Awards committee got together for a whole day meeting, we decided to order some pizza. We were browsing a few sites and saw this new creation.

We are adventurous eaters, so we decided to order it. We were a bit skeptical at first about this, but we would soon realize how delicious it would really be.

A bunch of Angus beef hot dogs are placed inside Pizza Hut’s stuffed crust. In the past, the stuffed crusts would be filled with cheese. You can have the option of the pizza being stuffed in any medium or large-sized pizzas. Eating the stuffed crust was similar eating the ‘pig in a blanket’.

It comes with a few packs of ketchup so you can dip the crusts into.

There are Honey Mustard Dips too for the crusts.

Chicken Lover Pizza (Large) has grilled chicken breast, peppers, onions, mushroom, and mozzarella.

Meat Lover Pizza (Large) contains pepperoni, italian sausage, mild sausage, beef, ham, bacon, and mozzarella.

No matter which pizza you order with the hot dog crust, it shouldn’t matter too much since the toppings isn’t directly in the proximity of the crust.

Cafe de Coral is the largest Chinese Fast Food Chain in Hong Kong. They were founded in 1968 and now has over 150 locations and still growing. It’s cheap and the service is very quick. Sometimes your meal will be ready in less than a minute.

Their menu is on the wall, if you can’t read Chinese, there are corresponding numbers to the items, and pictures! There are so many items, good luck if you are indecisive.

You order at the front of the restaurant and then wait in line till your order is ready. It’s like McDonalds 2.0 but with Chinese food.

Baked Spaghetti with Meat Sauce looked like it was just reheated. It tasted ok, but it needed more sauce. Once you mix this all together, you’ll realize there isn’t any sauce on the bottom.

Fish Fillet with steamed vegetables and rice is pretty sad looking. By looking at it, you know it’s just going to taste OK. Nothing inspiring here.

Salted Egg, chicken wings, pork sausage, BBQ pork on rice is where it’s at! If you stick with the BBQ meat items, you can’t go wrong. The quality isn’t super amazing, but it’s pretty good for the price.

Overall, you kinda get what you pay for at Cafe de Coral. It’s not the best food, but it’s quick and convenient. There’s a trade off there. I myself would prefer going to McDonalds instead, but everyone is a little different right?

Have you been here? Did you like it?

My last meal in Hong Kong was at the Hong Kong International Airport eating at Burger King. There really wasn’t anything good to eat in the area. My parents wanted drinks and I just wanted a sandwich. I know airplane food can be crap, so I needed something decent tasting.

Minute Maid Orange Juice

Fries, Coffee, and Tea

Mushroom Swiss Tender Grill Chicken Panini has mushrooms, swiss cheese, mayo, tomato and lettuce in a bun. It sure wasn’t a panini since it doesn’t have the toasted grill marks. The sandwich tasted alright, but it’s nothing too amazing.

Overall, pretty meh sandwich.

Have you been to a Burger King overseas? Any cool items you’ve encountered?

McDonalds Canada finally comes out with the Chicken McBites. A few months ago, it was only available in the United States and a few friends and I actually drove to the states to try it. The McBites are quite different than the ones in the States.

It is paired with either Creamy Ranch or Hot Habanero dipping sauces.

You can choose your McBites is a box of 10 or 20. We though we would be full with 20 McBites, but it was really tiny like mini McNuggets.

It is breaded lightly and seasoned with salt and pepper. The texture inside was similar to McNuggets.

As for the dipping sauce, they are not meant for everyone.

The Hot Habanero sauce was HOT! It was really spicy and made me sweat a little bit.
The Creamy Ranch sauce was similar to the ones you would put on your salad or dip your chips into.

Overall, nothing too special, but it was a fun item for kids. If you’re super hungry, you might want to go with a burger instead.
