Main Street eatery Torafuku reopens Wednesday, October 11, 2023 after a temporary closure caused by a street fire. The restaurant was closed on September 7, 2023 after a suspicious fire in the back alley caused extensive flooding. All just days before the restaurant was set to mark its 8-year anniversary with an annual celebration menu loved by regular patrons. This year, owner and executive chef Steve Kuan presents a seven-course experience available for $70.00 per person.

“After the devastating fire incident behind the restaurant in September 7 the, restaurant was under a thorough restoration. Many stressful days and sleepless nights, we were finally able to give Torafuku a brand new start to begin its 8-year anniversary and welcome everyone. Thank you for your patience and support, we wish to see everyone again!” shares Kuan.

8-Year Anniversary Menu
The seven-course anniversary menu will be available from October 11 until the restaurant closes for its annual holiday on Sunday, December 17. In typical Torafuku fashion, the menu exhibits an array of international flavours and cooking techniques. Patrons will be treated to diverse dishes, including a refreshing Hiramasa crudo with burnt orange, shiso, and ginger white shoyu. The fan-favourite house made steam buns with foie gras parfait will make an appearance. Premium proteins, including black cod, duck breast, Totten Inlet mussels and tiger prawns, are found throughout the meal. To finish, the restaurant’s much-loved Basque cheesecake takes on a new topping of oolong tea crème caramel with fruit compote topping.

The menu, designed to share is available for $70.00 per person, a minimum of two orders per table is required. The offer is available for dine-in only. View the full menu here. Reservations can be made via OpenTable here.

As part of the celebration and way to thank guests, Torafuku will bring back its popular bonus gift cards from October 18-October 31, 2023. The gift cards are awarded to guests for dine-in purchases. Guests that spend $160.00 before tax receive a $30.00 gift card, those that spend $300.00 before tax receive a $60.00 card.

A Nod From The MICHELIN Guide
Just days ago Torafuku was announced as a recommended restaurant in the MICHELIN Guide Vancouver for the second year.

“The main influences on the cooking at Torafuku come from countries like Korea, Japan and Taiwan, so it seems entirely apt that this restaurant is located close to, but not in Chinatown. Lunch is quick and easy and all about rice bowls featuring kakuni-style braised meats, but at dinner the kitchen’s more adventurous side comes out to play. This is when you’ll discover more European elements to the dishes, and if there’s a dish you simply must order it’s their wonderful Basque cheesecake.

The open kitchen is the focus of the understated room, which makes use of plenty of concrete for that ersatz-industrial look. Those of a more sociable bent will enjoy the communal table.”
