South Okanagan Harvest Season Beckons Canadian Vacation Seekers

The trend of Canadians choosing getaways close to home is continuing. In the first quarter of this year, domestic tourism spending saw an increase of 3.5% totalling $15.6 billion, according to Statistics Canada data[i]. With the harvest season underway and fall foliage abound, Watermark Beach Resort invites getaway-seekers to experience a relaxing retreat to wine country.

Unlike typically crowded summer months in Canada’s picturesque desert oasis, fall gives visitors to the South Okanagan the opportunity to explore at their own pace, whether embarking on a personalized tour at one of the 70 wineries within BC’s wine country or following a path through nature on a scenic Osoyoos walking trail. “Fall in Osoyoos is an unparalleled experience; visitors are presented with a plethora of options for activities, from visiting the tasting rooms of local wineries and distilleries to attending outdoor festivals and events,” said David McBean, general manager at Watermark Beach Resort.

The Okanagan Valley is renowned for its diverse culinary scene, as showcased in the recently published book Okanagan Eats: Signature Chefs’ Recipes from British Columbia’s Wine Valleys by Dawn Postnikoff. Visitors can embrace the harvest and farm-to-table fare prepared by chefs featured in the aforementioned book this season. Guests availing of the Dining at the Watermark accommodation package can taste the dish by Chef Nick Atkins of 15 Park Bistro featured in the book, with the dining credit included in the package usable toward breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Watermark Beach Resort.

From now through December 14, 15 Park Bistro is running a Winemaker and Brewmaster Dinner Series with five events, each hosted by the participating brewer or winemaker and featuring a paired four-course menu prepared by Chef Atkins. When guests are not indulging in locally inspired cuisine and wine, they can unwind with a spa treatment at Levia Wellness Spa, or attend events during the 2023 South Okanagan Fire & Ice Festival starting on November 24. Remote workers can also take full advantage of savouring the season and lakeside backdrops with exclusive weekly booking rates.

Destination BC, the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA), and the BC Hotel Association (BCHA) launched Travel Now, a campaign to encourage travellers back to the Thompson Okanagan region.
