McDonald’s Double Filet-O-Fish

I kept seeing a bunch of advertisements on billboard about Filet O Fish at McDonalds. I have no idea why they are doing such a big advertising push for this sandwich. It’s just a regular filet o fish sandwich but with 2 fish patties.

Since the sandwich is a bit taller than the usual filet o fish, it is housed in a larger blue container.

The only difference is the addition of the fish patty. The way this McDonalds made it was wrong. Instead of the cheese in the middle, the cheese was on the bottom.

By not having the cheese between the 2 patties, the 2 patties were sliding around and made it difficult to eat. Since the ratio between the patty and the tar tar sauce is not the same, you really don’t get enough of the tar tar sauce. I really did not like the Filet O Fish as a double. I am a sucker for the tartar sauce, so adding the extra patty did not do it for me.

I would probably not get the double filet-o-fish again and just stick with the normal Filet-O-Fish.

  1. I will safely assume you are not Christian and, as a result, not familiar with their rites. The reason why they are advertising the double filet-o-fish (not that you can’t normally order it from the menu) is that it is lent. As for the order of the components, there is nothing wrong either, as it follows the order of the components of a regular filet-o-fish: from bottom up: botton half of bun, half slice of cheese, the fish, tartar sauce and the top half of the bun.

  2. @ Kim. I’m not Christian, so can you explain to me how McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish relates to Lent? Isn’t Lent about giving up something for 40 days / blahblah etc. ?

  3. That is why some people order their double filet o’ fish with extra tartar sauce. And yes the cheese is supposed to go in the middle between the two meats (as it is with the rest of McDonalds’ double sandwiches, ie double qrt pounder, double cheeseburger, mcdouble). The official mcdonalds website incorrectly displays the Filet O’ Fish with the Cheese above the Fish, rather than on bottom.

Thx for the post, I just ordered one of these with extra Tartar (in the sandwich) and some chopped onions, it was epic. Can’t wait to try it again; maybe with sliced onions instead.

  5. I don’t know about lent, but Kim’s post was 2 years ago, and McD’s still has the double filet. Also, on the regular filet, the half slice of cheese is on the bottom, but on the double the cheese *should* be between the patties.
