How buying imperfect produce is a win-win for everyone with SPUD

Did you know, 30% of fruits and vegetables are rejected by supermarkets because they aren’t attractive enough to sell? It is the sad reality when consumers shop as we eat with our eyes. This could mean the produce or fruit is the wrong colour, size or has a slight blemish or mark. Imperfect doesn’t mean inedible.

When we waste food, we waste the precious resources used to create the fruits and vegetables. That’s 1.4 trillion litres of water wasted in food production. That’s insane since not all Canadians even have equal access to water.

SPUD sent us the imperfect apples and bananas and we couldn’t even tell the difference. It tastes exactly the same, just as healthy, and the best part is that it’s cheaper to buy. Another great thing about SPUD is that they would never sell anything that they wouldn’t eat themselves, so they will replace and refund you if you’re not satisfied with the fruits and vegetables.

Until February 15, 2022, SPUD is launching a fundraiser for the Food Stash Foundation, an organization that reduces the environmental impact of food waste and helps feed those facing food insecurity. This organization keeps good, surplus food from going to waste and deliver it where it’s needed.

Diana started Foodology in 2010 because she just eats out everyday! She started a food blog to share her love of food with the world! She lives in Vancouver, BC and adores the diversity of food around her. She will go crazy for churros and lattes.
