PICA‘s talented pastry team, led by the indefatigable chef-instructors, Eulalie, Gary, and Ivy, alongside five dedicated students, recently participated in Hyatt Regency’s Gingerbread Lane contest. We are beyond proud and overjoyed to announce that their hard work, creativity, and passion paid off as they clinched the 1st place in the professional category!

What makes this victory special is that the winning submission was a stunning gingerbread rendition of the Grand Budapest Hotel, inspired by the iconic film by the esteemed director Wes Anderson. The intricate design and impeccable execution truly showcased the exceptional skills and dedication of our team. What’s even more heartening is that our efforts extend beyond the realm of culinary artistry. The Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts believes in making a positive impact on the community, and as part of their tradition, they have chosen to dedicate their success to help raise funds to support —an organization committed to granting the wishes of children facing critical illnesses. Your support, directly or indirectly, has contributed to making dreams come true for these deserving children.

“In a delightful turn of events, one of our students shared the entire journey—from the conceptualization and construction to the awe-inspiring installation of the gingerbread Grand Budapest Hotel—on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. We are thrilled to share that the TikTok video has gone viral, amassing a staggering 11 million views and counting! The reach and impact of our creation have grown by an additional 7 million views since Monday.

This viral success not only brings well-deserved recognition to the talent within our culinary community but also spreads joy and inspiration to a global audience. It is a testament to the passion, creativity, and dedication that define the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts.” says, Sylvia Potvin, President of PICA, “Thank you to everyone who contributed to this success, whether through your expertise, support, or simply by being part of our wonderful community. Let’s continue to create and share moments that bring joy, inspiration, and a sense of accomplishment. Congratulations to PICA’s pastry team and students on this remarkable achievement!”
