2% Jazz Coffee has been serving coffee in Victoria since 1996. They offer a unique coffee experience with an open space concept where coffee roaster and cafe culture collide.

2PercentJazz-inner

The Roastery and Cafe is outside the historic Hudson building. Right by the Victoria Public Market and  block away from Chinatown. I got a bit lost finding the place, but as long as you walk around the outside of The Hudson, you will find it.

2PercentJazz-pastries

The baked goods looked amazing. Prices are pretty good too.

2PercentJazz-square

I wish I had the stomach for some treats, but all I needed was coffee. Next time, I’ll have to make sure I grab a treat.

2PercentJazz-latte

Latte was made beautifully with some latte art on the top. The espresso in it was nice and strong and the milk was smooth.

Overall, the atmosphere in the cafe was great, plus the staff is nice and friendly. I can image lots of people here just doing some work or chilling with friends. If you are ever in Victoria, definitely check out 2% Jazz Coffee. They have 2 locations in Victoria.

matchstick-chinatown-inner

Matchstick Coffee has opened their newest location in Chinatown close to Phnom Penh. They are a specialty roastery and retailer in Vancouver, BC, with an emphasis on hand-crafted preparation and delivery of single-origin coffees. Their Chinatown location is a lot bigger than their Kingsway/Fraser location. It’s a great place to work or relax with friends.

I came here with my coworkers to grab a cup of coffee and a snack and then head back to our office. Besides coffee and pastries, they do sell breakfast and lunch.

matchstick-chinatown-coffee

They sell coffee in their cute packaging. They have 6 varieties that vary in taste.

matchstick-chinatown-chem

They make really good and strong pour overs.

matchstick-chinatown-making

I decided to get my usual cappuccino.

matchstick-chinatown-latte

Cappuccino ($3.25) is quite smooth and creamy. The espresso is strong and I really enjoy their coffee.

matchstick-chinatown-puff-tart

Savoury Puff Tart has squash, béchamel, ricotta & kale. The puff pastry was really flakey  and made lovely crunch noise when I bit down on it. Then the yummy ricotta taste fills your mouth.

Overall, it’s great to have a hip coffee shop in Chinatown. It’s really changing up Chinatown and it should be interesting to see how that neighbourhood transforms in the next few years.

milkandsugar-bbt

Milk and Sugar Cafe is located on Kingsway near Joyce. They are best known for their $2 bubble tea specials and $3 all day breakfast. You really can’t go wrong with those prices. They usually have 3 different kinds of bubble tea on special.

When KoreanGirl and I came here, we didn’t particularly like any of the flavours, as they were cheesecake, slushes, and oreo ice cream flavours.

milkandsugar-avo

Avocado Mango Fresh Fruit Bubble Tea (Large $4.25) it was a strong combination but I wanted to try it for fun. I love both fruits, so I didn’t mind it at all. It was dominated by more of the avocado taste.

milkandsugar-green

Lychee Green Tea with Mango Stars was what KoreanGirl ordered.

milkandsugar-menu

Their food menu is limited, but it’s all under $5.

milkandsugar-toast

Condensed Milk Toast with Ice Cream ($3.50) it took a long time for this to be made. It was a busy day and they only had 2 people working here. We didn’t mind as we had our bubble tea to occupy our time. We loved the toast but though the ice cream was a bit too much, so next time we will probably order it without ice cream.

Overall,  decent place with good prices. The interior isn’t that pretty, but it will do.

revolver-inner

Revolver focuses on 2 key things – coffee and your experience. I come here once in a while to get a coffee and a morning treat. They have a rotating variety of beans for their espresso, so you might get something different each time. I can’t remember a time when someone asks what type of beans I want in my coffee. I always choose the one that has more of a chocolate taste to it. I always find the baristas are good at recommending which espresso fits my taste buds.

The space inside isn’t large, but most people take their coffee to go.

Latte and Pecan Tart are my usual items that I order. You can’t go wrong with their coffee and that pecan tart is so delicious! It must be all that brown sugar and butter. Mmm Mmmm Mmm.

La-Petite-Cuillere-outer

La Petite Cuillere Tea House is located in the Mount Pleasant area. They serve up all day brunch, high tea and afternoon tea sets. I came here with my coworkers for a team social with all 8 of us. Looking at a few of the High Tea places in town, this was definitely the cheapest.

La-Petite-Cuillere-cups

We came here because it fit into our budget and it was very close to our office. Plus, a few others recommended we come here.

La-Petite-Cuillere-table

The interior is quite nice and it has a few tables and cupboards filled with saucers and cups. You also get a good view of the outside. If you have groups of 4 or more, you’ll want to make a reservation so they have everything ready ahead of time, especially for people with allergies.

La-Petite-Cuillere-menu

The English Tea Menu has 3 main selections:

  • La petite cuillère Tea ($12.75 per person)
Two miniature sweets and one of our signature cupcakes. Served with your choice of tea.
  • The “Afternoon Tea” ($24.50 per person)
Full service of three miniature sweets, three finger sandwiches, two miniature scones, mini loaf, tea biscuit, fruit preserves, and Devonshire cream. Served on a traditional three tier stand with your choice of tea.
  • The “High Tea” ($13.75 per person)
A selection of two miniature sweets, two finger sandwiches, one miniature scone, fruit preserves, and Devonshire cream. Served on authentic English bone china with your choice of tea.

You can add $2 to the price if you want their premium selection instead of the standard.

La-Petite-Cuillere-setting

We all ordered The “Afternoon Tea” and waited patiently as if arrived. While we waited, we loved looking at their little plates and cutlery.

La-Petite-Cuillere-pot

They have a large selection of tea and i went with the Ti Kuan Yin Oolong. This tea is a semi-fermented Oolong tea, has long been one of China’s most popular teas. It has an aroma reminiscent of a Merseault wine with a creamy sweet flavour and some floral notes to it. The brew finishes with its famous cooked sugar taste.

La-Petite-Cuillere-tea

I love asian tea! I’ve grown up with it and I can’t seem to like any other types of teas.

La-Petite-Cuillere-towers

When the three tier stand arrived everyone started whipping out their phones to take pictures. Who wouldn’t right? It’s quite a sight when you see all the tiers appearing on the table.

La-Petite-Cuillere-sandwiches

The 3  finger sandwiches are on the first tier and there was a croissant sandwich, a asparagus and salmon sandwich and a veggie roll. The 3 items were decent.

La-Petite-Cuillere-scones

On the second tier, you have the two miniature scones, mini loaf, and tea biscuit. You use the Devonshire cream and the fruit preserves from the first tier for the scones.

La-Petite-Cuillere-dessert

The third tier is the dessert. Macaron, cheesecake and a raspberry tart.

La-Petite-Cuillere-macaron

Every last item was enjoyable. Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom.

La-Petite-Cuillere-table-towers

For $24.50 for their largest set, it is definitely affordable compared to some other places in town. The service is great and there is a cozy atmosphere. As for the quality of the items you get as part of the Afternoon Tea are decent. It’s not the best but you do get what you pay for. Nonetheless, I did have a great experience dining here.

Fall is right around the corner and all the Fall favourites are beginning to come back. In particular, the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Starbucks is offering it up on their menu earlier this year. Time flies doesn’t it?

I was taking a morning break at work to grab a hash brown and I noticed something on McDonald’s menu. It was written in orange and clearly stood out on their McCafe menu – Pumpkin Spice Latte. I actually never realized they would sell such a thing.

McDonalds Canada has been keeping this quite hush hush on social media, so you’ll only see it when you go into stores.

mcdonalds-menu-psl

At the Vancouver location on Main Street, the prices were.

  • Small ($2.69)
  • Medium ($3.20)
  • Large ($3.69)

mcdonalds-psl

I grabbed a small Pumpkin Spice Latte just to see how it compared to the Starbucks PSL. When you open the lid, there’s not much to see, but foam and some spice. At Starbucks, their drinks look a lot prettier with the whipped cream.

Despite the lack of whipped cream, the taste was quite comparable to Starbucks, but a tad sweeter than how I would have liked it. It’s still much cheaper than Starbucks.

Balzacs-coffee

While in Toronto, Balzacs Coffee Roasters caught my eye when walking around Yorkville. They were on Dragons Den looking for funding to expand their shop into 2 Downtown Toronto. They got their deal with Bruce Croxon and Arlene Dickinson.

This location at the Reference Library in Yorkville was one of the two that needed funding to expand.

It is connected right beside the library, so you can go borrow some books and then come to Balzacs for coffee.

Balzacs-menu

You can purchase an array of baked goods and get your usual coffee, tea or cold drinks.

Balzacs-latte

Latte was what I ordered. They had some issues frothing the milk, so they couldn’t do much latte art on it, but if you look closely, it could resemble a woman with long hair? Either way, the latte tasted great and had a strong shot of espresso inside.

What coffee comes from a tap? It’s pretty awesome and I haven’t seen any other place do this yet. You get a foamy coffee head just like beer. The Cold Brew is strong and smooth. You will sure be 100% caffeinated after this.

Creekside Coffee Factory is located in Coquitlam in a small plaza area. They are proud to be serving the freshest coffee possible. They even roast the beans in-house. CoffeeGuy introduced me to this place and told me there was a cafe with a happy Korean man roasting beans, while playing the guitar. I love independent coffee shops because you can really feel their passion for what they do and putting a smile on customers faces.

Since M’s relatives from Korea love coffee, it just seemed fitting to take them to a Korean owned cafe.

creekside-coffee-roaster

You can even watch them roasting the beans. Unfortunately, when we took a visit, nothing was happening here. I wanted to see this machine in action.

You can expect home-cooked Italian food for takeout or eating in the restaurant. They also serve espresso, homemade focaccia bread, salads, snacks, Brown Paper Packages Ice Cream, etc.

I came here with my coworkers – Janers and Mags to check this cute place out.

pazzo-chow-order

The space is really small. So there is one table inside and 2 table outside. It’s not a place for large groups.

pazzo-chow-menu

The menu changes daily, so you never know what will be featured on the menu.

pazzo-chow-bag

While you wait, there are a few items you can purchase from their grocery section.

They have carefully selected range of local and Italian-made and inspired goods that allow them to share their love of good food and great products with their customers.

pazzo-chow-grocery

The owners select fine quality products that have rich history and are not easily, if at all, found elsewhere in Vancouver. Many of the products are used in their menu too.

pazzo-chow-nutella

Fresh Focaccia with Nutella ($2) we got them to cut it up into 3 pieces since Janers and Mags wanted to share. It was a good decision to share since there is only so much Nutella we handle for lunch. They did not skimp on the nutella and there was tons of it! Yum Yum Yum!

We found that the salt on the focaccia balanced very well with the sweet nutella.

pazzo-chow-pastas

Bowl of Fresh pasta with focaccia ($8) had a few sauces to choose from. The pasta was al dente and was a good size for lunch.

pazzo-chow-salad

Spinach with BBQ Pork, walnuts and water chestnuts ($7.50) was one of their featured salads. It looked amazing, but I felt there was a but too much sauce for the salad, so at the bottom, the leaves were drenched.

pazzo-chow-salted-pistachio

Salted Pistachio ($4.25/scoop) the ice cream was very smooth and the addition of the salted pistachio were delicious.

Janers and Mags didn’t want me to write about Pazzo Chow because they feared this little gem would be packed at lunch. But, in true blogger style, I had to share this little restaurant with my amazing readers. Pazzo Chow is a nice place to stop for a quick lunch if you work around this area.
