Buttermere Patisserie: 2022 Father’s Day Treats Featuring Tropical Fruit Tarts

For a refreshing Father’s Day, Buttermere Patisserie has created two 6-inch fruit tarts focusing on a couple select flavours often found in Taiwan’s fruit bounty: guava and Fuyu persimmon. Tropical fruit tarts like no other, this Father’s Day collection is an ode to, owner and head pastry chef, Jamie Tung’s fond memories of summer fruit.

The Babaplum tart, named after the way in which many refer to their fathers in Chinese- “ba” or “baba”-is a recollection of the popular guava and plum powder snack in Taiwan. A sweet and tart combination, thanks to a Taiwanese fruit import company, Buttermere is using a premium pearl guava for this year’s Father’s Day treat. With almost a whole guava in each tart, the crunchy Babaplum is a strawberry almond pressed shortcrust tart with vanilla sponge, vanilla namelaka, guava gel, plum powder and jelly.

The second offering is Mr. Fuyu, a tart featuring fresh Fuyu persimmons, another well-loved tropical fruit. Although typically used in fall and winter desserts, the soft and juicy caramelized persimmons combined with a warm touch of cinnamon are irresistible for any season. Mr. Fuyu is a chocolate almond pressed shortcrust tart with chocolate sponge, vanilla namelaka, almost two whole caramelized Fuyu persimmons, and fresh mint providing multiple layers of textures. In Chinese, a person who is “fuyu” implies that they are one who is well-off and rich in the needs of life, a welcomed blessing for all fathers and families.

Available for preorder on Buttermere Patisserie’s website, these Fathers Day tarts are available June 6th to 17th starting at $65 for pick up at Torafuku (958 Main Street) or delivery.
