Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar is proud to announce it has been awarded two prestigious honours at the 2022 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards.

Helmed by executive Chef Roger Ma, the acclaimed dining destination earned Silver in the Best West Coast Restaurants category and Bronze in Best Upscale Restaurants category.

In the Best West Coast Restaurant category, the judging panel praised Boulevard for its “superb take on seafood”. “Passionately sourced ingredients at every level”, one judge noted.

Described as a “master of hospitality” and “perennial upscale favourite”, Boulevard further stood out for the 2022 judges, who praised the dining spot in the Best Upscale Restaurants category.  The panellists were especially wowed by Boulevard’s “candle-lit elegance” and “jaw-dropping seafood towers”.

The honours are just the latest for Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar, which is known for its gracious service and seafood-focused menu that transforms pristine ingredients into exquisitely executed dishes of extraordinary flavour. With numerous appearances on “Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants” list, Boulevard  Kitchen & Oyster Bar is one of Vancouver’s most decorated dining establishments.

The awards illustrate how Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar has not only responded to the ever-changing effects of the pandemic but has risen above so many recent industry-wide challenges through expertise, hard work, dedication, and passion. The restaurant consistently offers the highest possible level of culinary artistry and welcoming, meticulous service to exceed what people dream of when it comes to an unforgettable dining experience.

The team’s commitment to excellence comes down to never losing sight of what matters most.

“Our drive comes from trying to do all the little things right,” says Chef Ma, winner of the 2020 Canadian Culinary Championship. “It all starts with building a team: I am a true believer in teamwork, and to be successful in the restaurant business you need consistency from your team.  Delivering the perfect guest experience with food, drink, and service is always our pursuit.”

Ma’s distinguished career includes his integral role in many restaurants in revered chef Daniel Boulud’s empire, including Boulud’s flagship restaurant, Daniel in New York. After helping launch Café Boulud and dBar at the Four Seasons Toronto and Boulud at the Ritz Carlton in Montreal, Ma returned to his hometown of Vancouver to assist with the opening of Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar. He earned a podium finish at the 2016 Bocuse d’Or national finals and has helped lead the Boulevard back-of-house team to numerous Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards, among many other accolades.

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar also boasts the culinary vision of Alex Chen, Executive Chef – Signature Restaurants. Winner of the 2018 Canadian Culinary Championship, Chen was the first competitor to conquer an Iron Chef (Hugh Acheson) in the reboot of Iron Chef Canada that same year. He received the Foodservice and Hospitality and Hotelier 31st Annual Pinnacle Awards – Chef of Year for 2019 and Alex is also a chef and judge on the Food Network Canada cooking competition series, Wall of Chefs.

Among Boulevard’s other esteemed staff members are pastry chef Kenta Takahashi, sous chef Daniel Kim, and executive general manager J.P. Potters, each highly accomplished in their own right. They share the same goal of making every guest who dines at Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar to feel like it’s a special occasion—because it is.

Maintaining Boulevard’s superior standards means never resting on its laurels.

“The food at Boulevard will continue to evolve, as we work closely with our valued suppliers, farmers, and fisherman,” Ma says. “The cuisine will always take centre-stage, and that’s what excites and motivates me.

“I find inspiration in my staff,” the chef adds. “I feel a huge responsibility to my young team who still believe in our industry and want to succeed. It is my duty to mentor, teach, and guide them so our industry can have new leaders and can continue to grow.”

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar extends its congratulations to all of the restaurants and professionals recognized in the 33rd Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards.
