The only way I’ll cut my baby’s nails is with Baby Nail Scissors

Being a new mom is tough and no one teaches you all the best ways to take care of your child. A lot of us have to use trial and error to find the best products to use on our children.

I thought cutting baby nails would be a breeze because I know how to cut my own nails. Surprisingly, thats not the case. Cutting baby nails are so tricky. Baby E has eczema, so it’s critical to keep her nails short so she doesn’t scratch her face. We do use mittens on her, but don’t want to keep mittens on her 24/7 or else it might affect her sense of touch when playing with toys.

Baby Nail Clippers

I started off using the Safety 1st Baby Nail Clipper that came as part of a baby grooming set. We used it for a good 3 months and cutting her nails about once a week. It was honesty hard to use as Baby E would be squirming and you need precision to cut those tiny tiny baby nails.

There were 3 occasions where I would end up cutting the top parts of her skin and making her bleed. She ended up crying a lot! Those nail clippers are seriously sharp. Visibility was limited since it would be hard to see if you’re cutting nail or skin.

After the third time, I took to instagram to ask my followers what is their preferred method of cutting their kids nails. I got lots of great suggestions like cutting their nails with a nail clippers at night when they’re sleeping, bitting their nails, using a nail file, peeling them off, and a few more.

Baby Nail Scissors

Daddy blogger – Michael of Beyond the Rhetoric told me to check out baby scissors. He told me it has worked with his daughter and years later still uses it. I was very intrigued! I ended up getting Little Bot Baby Nail Scissors from Amazon as it has some very good reviews. Of course I was ready to try any possible way to make cutting nails a breeze.

The nail scissors were dull but it works well with baby’s thin nails. Cutting nails were really easy and I never cut her yet and it’s been 5 month using these. Cutting nails on her hands are easy, but the toes just take a bit more effort and angling.

With better visibility when using scissors, I definitely felt like I had more control.

Final Thoughts

Of course, there are so many baby nail cutter products out there, but we found one that worked best for our family. Hands down, nail scissors are amazing! I wish someone told me about these before I had a kid. I would definitely recommend baby nail scissors if you have a newborn and huge anxiety about cutting their nails.

There’s a lot of different kinds/brands of baby scissors out there. I would suggest you go read the general reviews to see which one parents like the most especially on Amazon.

Hopefully this parenting tip helps you on your journey of cutting your infant’s nails.
