Krispy Kreme is collaborating with Oreo and they have created limited time only flavours from now until April 18th, 2021 at participating locations. 2 weeks only! We are huge fans of Oreo and Krispy Kreme, so we had to take a drive to the closest Krispy Kreme in Delta, BC to get these sweet treats.

There are 2 options of the donuts to get- Oreo Cookie Glazed Donut and the Oreo Cookied Over-the-Top Donut.

Oreo Cookie Glazed Donut

The Original Glazed Doughnut is covered in an Oreo cookie glaze, filled with cookies and kreme, topped with an icing drizzle and Oreo cookie pieces. This was really good especially when it’s paired with a coffee to balance out the sweetness. As for the cookies and kreme filling, there wasn’t much in it as you can tell from the photo. Other than that, it’s very enjoyable with the generous amount of Oreo cookie glaze. I would definitely get this again.

Oreo Cookie Over-the-Top Donut

This has the Oreo Cookie Glazed Donut, drizzled with chocolate icing and topped with cookies and kreme filling and an Oreo cookie wafer. It’s definitely over the top but so epic for Oreo fans. Its harder to eat with the varying textures, but you can’t deny that it looks great.

Final Thoughts

This was a great collaboration between Krispy Kreme and Oreo. Too bad it’s only here for 2 weeks and then it’s gone. The Oreo Original Glazed Doughnut was our favourite in terms of taste. If you’re there anyways, might as well get both to enjoy the whole experience. Plus, the Oreo Cookie Over-the-Top Donut is great for pictures.

Krispy Kreme has been coming up with a lot of limited edition donuts lately. The last one was the strawberry glaze, key lime glaze, and then the lemon glaze. Now, they released their trio of dessert donuts – Banana Pudding, Coconut Cake, and Mississippi Mud Pie. These are available now at select locations in North America. Luckily for us in Vancouver, their Delta location has all the latest donuts available.

You can get these donuts until June 24, 2020.

We made sure to get there 30 minutes before opening so we didn’t have to wait hours in line. It’s funny how the Covid-19 Pandemic is making people go crazy over sweets.

Banana Pudding

This doughnut is filled with Banana Pudding and topped with fluffy creme and vanilla wafer cookies. Just like a banana cream pie, what’s not to love? There is a good amount of filling inside too.

Coconut Cake

A delicious coconut flavored cake doughnut topped with cream cheese icing and shredded coconut. This was my least favourite just because of my own personal taste preferences and its not as exiting as the other ones.

Mississippi Mud Pie

A light and fluffy doughnut with Chocolate Pie creme, dipped in chocolate icing, and topped with cookie and graham crumbles and marshmallow drizzle. This was my favourite of the bunch as there was a great ratio of creme to donut. It worked very well together.

Final Thoughts

Overall, a fun trio of donuts to try. Banana Pudding and Mississippi Mud Pie were great but the Coconut Cake didn’t make the cut. Clearly, we love our sweet filled donuts.

La Meza Grill is family-owned and specializes in traditional Filipino cuisine. They opened in June 2014 and created a menu that captures the richness of Filipino cooking. The cooking is heavily influenced by the Spanish Colonial era and a lot of the dishes are sweet, savoury and spicy,

They are located in North Delta right between Richmond and Surrey. Closer to Surrey, but it’s far from Downtown Vancouver to get to. Most people get here by driving and there are lots of parking spots in the plaza.

Interior

To get into the restaurant, you need to enter through Season’s Market, which is a Filipino Grocery store with tons of well-priced snacks and goods.

It can get quite busy on weekends at peak hours, but there are always tables available for groups. You can always call ahead for reservations. They also do delivery, take out and catering.

Menu

Longsilog

The boys were craving breakfast, so they got their own longsilog breakfast, which has sweet pork sausages with egg, salad and garlic rice. It’s pretty awesome and hits the spot. The garlic rice is so good and you’ll wonder how you went without garlic in rice for such a long time.

The best part is that it’s available all day.

Seafood Palabok

This noodle dish – seafood palabok has thick rice noodles, ground pork rinds, bard-boiled egg in a mixed seafood sauce. I personally loved it but my Filipino friend thought it missed the mark as she’s had many many seafood palabok in her lifetime. It could have used more seafood too.

Spaghetti

The spaghetti has ground beef and pork, hotdogs, Filipino-style sweet tomato sauce, and topped with cheese. We loved this especially my husband. It’s not too sweet but it’s like every kid’s dream to have spaghetti and hot dogs hahaha. Reminded us of an elevated comfort dish.

Fresh Lumpia

This is huge and it is a fresh vegetable roll with house special garlic sauce and topped with green onion and peanuts. The garlic sauce is a touch sweet but it goes well with the fresh lumpia.

Laing

This is a mixture of taro leaves and minced pork in a spicy coconut milk sauce. It also has some hot peppers in it, so watch out. As we never had taro leaves before, I thought it would be interesting to try. We all didn’t like it because it was more like a mush.

Arroz Caldo

I absolutely love this chicken congee with tons of garlic. It’s like elevated Chinese congee but probably worse for you health-wise, but so damn delicious.

Lechon Kawali

This is delicious deep-fried pork belly and served with a housemade sarsa sauce. You can’t deny the taste of deep-fried pork belly. It’s a must.

Chicken Chicharon Sisig

On a hot sizzling skillet is diced chicken and chicken chicharon marinated in soy and calamansi. There is also a freshly cracked egg on top, so make sure to mix it a little bit before eating. The hot skillet will cook the egg. I love this dish for its textures and salty and savoury taste.

BBQ Chicken and BBQ Pork Skewers

Both the pork and chicken skewers are marinated in their house sauce and grilled to perfection. It has a good amount of meat on each skewer too.

Garlic Rice

To go with all the dishes, garlic rice is a must. We got a big bowl to share.

Final Thoughts

Surprisingly, we really enjoyed La Meza Grill. The food was excellent, value for the price was outstanding, and the service was ok. It’s now one of my favourite places to go for Filipino Cuisine in the Lower Mainland and you really can’t beat their price for the quality of food you get. Highly recommended.

Tandoori Flame recently opened up in the Delta-Surrey area as North America’s largest authentic Indian Buffet. Since they have opened, there has been much buzz about this place and line ups everyday that seem to be never ending.

With their 450+ seating capacity with a multi-room layout, they are really drawing a crowd every day and night.

It is a unique dining experience with interactive food stations – 12 food stations and 150 food items. Thats a lot of items to choose from.

Prices

Dining Area

The space is nice and there are tons of tables for small to large groups. They take reservations if you have 40 people in a party or more.

It’s pretty hard to believe they can fit 450 people in this space.

The Buffet Area

The buffet can be very crowded at peak dinner time from 6pm till 8pm with waits of about 30 minutes. The buffet is nice and there are wood and copper panels and pots to give it a nice look.

There is an area for snacks and appetizers like Pani Puri, which you can fill with yogurt, tamarind, and other sauces or ingredients.

The most exciting section is at the back of the restaurant with all the curries and rice. So many varieties that it’s hard to choose what you want to add to your plate. Good thing it’s a buffet so you can grab a bit of everything.

My favourites are the daal tarka, palak paneer and butter chicken.

Fresh Dosa is made on their grill and its so fun to watch. They don’t do this all the time, but if you can catch them in action, its interesting to see how its made.

The make it seem so easy and its stuffed with a potato mixture.

There are big tandoori ovens making naan and chicken tandoori. If you ask them, they can make garlic naan.

At the centre of the buffet are fruits and veggies. All the healthy fresh items in the centre.

Another item made in front of you is the Chana bhatura, which is fried bread. To go with it, is the pindi chana which is like a chickepea stew.

Let’s Eat

Drinks like these do cost extra. We got the blueberry lassi and peachy iced tea. There are alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options.

We started with some appetizers like samosas, chana bhatura, pindi chana, papadums, pan puri and some sauces.

Next round, I got some rice, palak paneer, naan, daal, butter chicken, and goat biryani.

I got some dosa, chicken tandoori, papadums and palak paneer.

There were tons of dessert options but I went with Mango Custard, Mango firni and petha. I was so stuffed that I wish I could of had more dessert.

Final Thoughts

The Indian buffet is something different for the Lower Mainland. It’s large and there are so many choices. I have been to a few other all you can eat Indian Buffets in town and this is large. It’s not as large as the all you can eat buffets in casinos, but for just Indian food, it’s impressive.

I never knew there were so many varieties of appetizers, curries, rice, and desserts. They do offer vegetarian and Halal options in the buffet.

The items in the buffet do vary, so some options may shift if you come here another time. They have a take out area as well if you love the food but don’t want to wait. Of course the take out isn’t all you can eat, but they will have a few favourite items to get to go – whether it be a meal for yourself and family.

Four Winds Brewing Co opened in 2013 and can be found in Delta BC. They gather flavours from around the world to create their unique West Coast and European styles in their beer. You can find their craft beer at various restaurants and liquor stores around BC.

A few of us went to the tasting room to try a few of their beers.

Tasting Room

four-winds-brewery-2

At the tasting room, you can do tasting, fill growlers, and buy bottles.

The tasting room isn’t large, but there are a few bar seats. Coming here is a fun way to try all of their beers all in one place.

Beers

four-winds-brewery-1

The beer selection changes seasonally, but there is a good amount of beers available. 9 types when we were here:

  • Pilsner
  • Berliner Weisse
  • Nectarous Dry Hopped Sour
  • Exil D’Eden
  • Sovereign Super Saison

All the beers aren’t available for growler fills, the types were:

  • IPA
  • Pale Ale

  • Salt and Pepper Gose

Beer Flights

four-winds-brewery-6

A flight of 4 samples costs $6. I didn’t know what to choose from the menu, so I got them to surprise me with 4 of the lighter beers on the menu.

  • Berliner Weisse is their sour German Wheat beer at 3.5%. It is light in body with a faint earthy mineral essence. Sour in taste but its refreshing and effervescent.
  • Nectarous is their dry hopped sour beer at 5.5%. It is sour, complex acidity balanced by tropical fruit esters, gives way to a clean, tart finish.
  • Salt and Pepper Gose at 5% has a very interesting flavour to it. It starts with a citrus start, but ends with a mid saltiness.
  • Pilsner at 4.8% uses their new world flavours to infuse this traditional Czech-style Pilsner. It has won multiple awards.

four-winds-brewery-8

The flight is a good way to try new beers and find favourites. There was no food here in the weekend except for freshly baked pretzels.

They have tacos from 12 – 3 on weekdays. It’s hard for some people to come during weekdays due to work.

four-winds-brewery-7

Overall, I do like some of their beers like the Nectarous, Berliner Weisse and Pilsner.

tasty-bistro-2

It was Thanksgiving and we didn’t know where to head out for lunch, but my sister suggested Tasty Indian Bistro in Delta. Everyone describes it as the Cactus Club of Indian food. The interior is very sleek, dark and has some nice decorative pieces.

tasty-bistro-1

The restaurant is quite large, so there are different dining areas. Great space for large groups.

tasty-bistro-3

Our table near the front was made of beautiful stone with nice carvings.

tasty-bistro-4

Vegetable Pakora ($9) are mixed vegetable deep-fried fritters. It is served with two types of chutney for a dipping sauce. The pakora were good, but I wish they had more of a crunch on the outside.

tasty-bistro-5

Lamb Korma has lamb pieces cooked in a mild creamy gravy and spices. It was a tad spicy but not too intense. There was a good amount of lamb.

tasty-bistro-6

Palak Paneer is made of spinach and Indian cheese cooked with spices. You can’t go wrong with this dish. It’s pretty delicious and loaded with spinach. It’s one item I order in most Indian restaurants.

tasty-bistro-7

Butter Chicken has boneless tandoori chicken cooked with rich tomato cream gravy. Always a favourite amongst the table.

tasty-bistro-8

Channa Masala has chickpeas cooked in authentic spices in true Punjabi fashion.

tasty-bistro-11

Onion Kulcha is naan bread stuffed with spiced onions and spices and baked in a tandoor. Goes so well wit the different types of curries.

tasty-bistro-12

Garlic Naan is garnished naan with garlic and herbs. Very fragrant and delicious.

tasty-bistro-10

We got a few rice dishes on the side. Good amount of food for 6 people for lunch. We found that since the curries had a lot of flavour on their own, plain rice and regular naan are good options rather than the flavoured naans. Some people do like the added taste.

tasty-bistro-14

Overall, it was a great lunch with the family over Indian food. There is plenty of free parking outside and its easy to drive to.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Akari Japanese Restaurant is located in Delta at Strawberry Hill. I would have never thought to have Japanese food in this area. Plus, I never frequent this area anyways. The restaurant has been around for 15 years and is operated by Koreans, so you will see some of that influence come out in their cuisine.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

This place was packed on a weekend and was quite busy.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

When we sat down, we received some tea.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

M and Scarface as usual always orders a coke wherever they go.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Complementary edamame beans arrived soon after.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Secret Castle Salad ($11.95) contains crab meat, salmon, tuna, avocado, tobiko, and sprouts with 3 kinds of dressing. This item was pretty impressive and looked amazing.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

You can see the layers of all the ingredients. You need to dig in to discover all the ingredients in this.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Spicy Delight ($6.95) contains salmon, tuna, tobiko with a spicy sauce served in orange cup.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Akari Island ($8.95) has spicy sashimi wrapped by seared salmon,  and tobiko on top spicy house sauce. The salmon that wrapped around the roll could have been a bit more smooth or seared more lightly.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Crazy Roll ($10.95) is a deep-fried California roll with Tobiko. You can substitute it with black rice, so its more healthy.

 Akari Japanese Restaurant

Black Cod Miso Yaki ($12.95) the cod is marinated with miso and sake and then grilled. It is served on a hot plate with vegetables.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Akari Roll ($10.95) has tuna, salmon, Aasparagus, tobiko, ebi, avocado, crabmeat with a soy wrap instead of seaweed.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Rock Cracker Roll ($10.95) contains double prawn, cucumber, avocado, crab meat on top with deep-fried scallop, spicy flakes, and tobiko.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Coffee Ice Cream came with 2 scoops and was very enjoyable. We were surprised this was even an option since most places only have green tea or mango ice cream. This was our favorite.

Akari Japanese Restaurant

Green Tea Ice Cream was the other ice cream we got. It was good and was a good way to end the meal.

Overall, Akari Japanese Restaurant is good if you live in this area. It isn’t the best but one of the better ones in the Delta area.
