WA-BAGEL: New limited-edition flavours for 1st Year anniversary

It’s been almost a year since Aburi Restaurants Canada opened the city’s first-ever Japanese-style bagel shop, WA-BAGEL (666 Burrard Street), in the heart of downtown Vancouver. To celebrate, the Tokyo-meets-New York concept is launching three limited-edition flavours – Triple Matcha, Ube Mochi, and the savoury Spinach & Feta. The trio is available from September 16 to 27, 2024. Guests will also receive a special WA-BAGEL tote bag with each bundle purchase (while supplies last).

“We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received since opening WA-BAGEL last September,” says head baker Yukiko Iikura, who previously owned her own Japanese-style bagel shop in Tokyo and moved to Vancouver to help launch WA-BAGEL. “The way the community has welcomed our unique creations has been truly heartwarming. We’ve introduced Japanese-style bagels to so many people, from all around the world, and now have incredible loyal guests.”

WA-BAGEL’s three exclusive anniversary flavours are available individually (from $5.50) or as part of its WA-BAGEL Anniversary Bundle ($18), which includes a limited-edition tote bag, while supplies last. The flavours are:

Triple Matcha
Made for matcha lovers, featuring a matcha bagel filled with matcha cream cheese and red bean paste, drizzled with matcha cream on top

Ube Mochi
Ube bagel filled with coconut, mochi, and ube paste, and topped with roasted coconut

Spinach & Feta
Spinach bagel stuffed with spinach & feta inside, and topped with feta cheese crumbles

This fall, WA-BAGEL will also introduce a new bagel sandwich for breakfast, a BLT featuring its popular Ume Bacon bagel.

“We’re excited to celebrate our first anniversary by continuing to innovate with new flavours. For example, our bestseller is the Red Bean & Cream Cheese bagel, and we’ve had a number of loyal customers request a matcha version, which is why we decided to create our new Triple Matcha flavour,” adds Iikura.

In the past year, WA-BAGEL has also popped up in various locations and festivals across Metro Vancouver, including Enishi Space at ITSUMO, Japan Summer Market, and Night Market at the MET. WA-BAGEL also currently has a limited pop-up space located at Bentall Centre (505 Burrard Street), Unit 501, next to the Burrard Station until September 27, 2024.

WA-BAGEL, a counter service spot, is open Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
