Vancouver Firefighter Charities (VFC) is teaming up with Z95.3 FM for another edition of its annual Umbrella Day fundraising initiative in support of its suite of charitable programs on Friday, November 8.
On November 8 from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., pedestrians and commuters will be met by firefighter volunteers selling VFC-branded umbrellas for $30 each and collecting donations via cash or card at five major transit hubs across Vancouver:
- Waterfront Station (Cordova St. between Seymour and Granville);
- City Centre Station (Granville and Georgia);
- Burrard Street Station (Burrard and Dunsmuir);
- Yaletown Roundhouse (Davie and Mainland);
- City Hall Station (Cambie and Broadway);
This year’s event marks the eighth anniversary for the Umbrella Day event that last year raised more than $9,000 for VFC community programs that include Snacks For Kids, Toys For Kids, Sports For Kids and Lifelines For Seniors. All four programs are supported entirely through firefighter payroll and community and corporate donations as well as fundraising events like Umbrella Day that are hosted by the VFC throughout the year.
Z95.3 FM comes aboard as a partner for the first time this year and will assist with event promotion via radio segments leading up to and on Umbrella Day, including live broadcasts from one of the stations during the event.
“We’re thrilled to team up with Z95.3 FM this year to help us get the message out for one of the biggest fundraising events on our annual calendar,” says VFC Executive Director Eric Himmelman. ”While we’re in the middle of rainy season, this event is a great way for everyone to help brighten the spirits of kids and families across the city who depend on our charitable programs.”
