starbucks-holiday-Chestnut-praline

Starbucks Canada introduces their new Chestnut Praline Latte, which replaces the Gingerbread Latte. When that news was announced, people petitioned to get the Gingerbread Latte back on the menu. Perhaps it was a marketing move to get people to vocalize their outrage…but it worked.

Starbucks hasn’t released a new holiday drink since 5 years ago, but its always fun to try something new.

I found it a bit silly since there’s so many alternatives you can choose from. No need to fuss over a flavour of latte.

starbucks-holiday-red-cups

Chestnut Praline Latte has espresso, steamed milk, and flavours of caramelized chestnuts and spices. Topped with whipped cream and spiced praline crumbs. You can also get it as a Frappuccino.

It was surprisingly good! Definitely on par with the other drinks on their holiday menu.

starbucks-holiday-whipped

I got a little big greedy and asked for A LOT of whipped cream and it kinda fell over on itself. It looked really good before it fell over. No need to be on a diet. I near MORE whipped cream.

timbertrain-sign

Timbertrain Coffee Roasters is located in the heart of historical Gastown in Vancouver, BC. They are committed to the science of brewing a perfect coffee every time. CoffeeGuy introduced us to Timbertrain and he swears their coffee is amazing and unique.

timbertrain-inner

The space is quite unique as it has the coffee bar on one side and then seating on the other side. The seats are pretty cool and has a crazy design. to fit a lot of people in a weird configuration.

timbertrain-order

They sell coffee and pastries, but one item that is quite unique is the Cold Brewed Coffee on Tap.

timbertrain-iced-brew

What coffee comes from a tap? It’s pretty awesome and I haven’t seen any other place do this yet. You get a foamy coffee head just like beer. The Cold Brew is strong and smooth. You will sure be 100% caffeinated after this.

timbertrain-latte

Latte is what you can get if you love milky foam and yummy espresso.

timbertrain-affogato

Affogato has a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso. It’s the perfect summer treat. The espresso and vanilla ice cream combo was great but I felt like their ice cream could have used a little bit of work.

timbertrain-pour

They also have some cool contraptions to brew their coffee. At the very end, they is a tap that dispenses still water and sparkling water. It’s pretty damn awesome.

timbertrain-cheers

We all had a great time here with the family on a weekend. Great coffee, great atmosphere, and great company.

basho-basho

I came with my family to indulge in Basho’s delicious sweet treats. Previously, I  came here with friends and it has always been a positive experience. The wait for a table was quite a while for a group of 5, but if you are able to endure a little bit of a wait or some here early, you’ll love this cozy cafe.

basho-tea-time

Sitting here with matcha lattes ($3.75) and a few treats that range from $1 to $3.

basho-matcha

It’s a bit bitter without sugar, so you can add some to sweeten it up for taste.

basho-treats

Sesame brownie, red bean mochi, nut mochi, chocolate mochi are some treats they offer.

Basho-Earl-Grey

Earl Grey Tea ($2.85) and sesame brownie is what my sister ordered. The tea comes already steeped so you don’t have the bag sitting in it getting stronger and stronger.

basho-scone

Smoked Cheddar and Chive Scone was an item on the counter and it was SO good and addictive. I would highly recommend getting this.

Basho-pulled-pork

Teri Pulled Pork with lunch set ($8 +$3) the pulled pork is delicious and tender and it comes over rice with a few veggies. Alternatively, you can get it as a salad. With the lunch set addition, you get soup, mini sweets, and a coup of tea. It was really good.

Basho-tuna-tataki

Tuna Tataki with lunch set ($9.5 +$3) is my favourite. It’s a light meal, healthy, and the perfect amount for a meal. The 3 treats are worth it too.

Basho-matcha

Overall, all the baked treats were good and none of them disappointed. It’s a cute cafe to just chill and catch up with friends over drinks and nibbles. Highly recommend this cafe!

cafe-joie-outer

It’s about time there is a nice independent cafe near Metrotown. What more do you need than coffee and some yummy pastries with friends. KoreanGirl and I were killing time before dinner, so we headed to Cafe Joie for a snack. The cafe is very close to Metropolis at Metrotown. A few minutes walk and you would never expect a place like this to be in the area.

cafe-joie-inner

The interior is quite beautiful, spacious and adorable. It’s a great place to do some homework or just catch up with some friends.

cafe-joie-bear

Latte is so cute! KoreanGirl was impressed that they took the extra effort to make a little bear on top. The coffee tastes great as they use JJ Bean coffee. I would just come here for the latte art.

cafe-joie-latte

Cappuccino was what I ordered. Nice, strong, and delicious. A definite winner if you want to just slowly sip away and have some pastries with it.

cafe-joie-almond-cookie

Almond cookie was delicious!! I liked the texture and how it was crunchy. I had an obsession with pastries with nuts and almonds. Yum.

cafe-joie-coffee-bun

Original Coffee Bun that they have here was enjoyable! It’s uniformly shaped and has a coffee aroma from the crust on top. KoreanGirl liked this coffee bun the most compared to some other places in town.

cafe-joie-treats

They also have tons of macarons and a few cakes on display too. They also have shaved ice.

Overall, we enjoyed this cafe and would highly recommend it.

Waves Latte

Waves $2 latte deal is back! Now I don’t need to have a Starbucks Treat receipt to wait for a coffee after 2pm. The deal is pretty good and its a medium sized latte. I always drink lattes, so as you can see, it hurts my wallet if I always buy it at regular price.

My girlfriends and I came on the weekend to just chat and chill over the $2 lattes.

Waves Latte

Waves on Commercial Drive was packed on the weekend. Lot of people studying and hanging out.

Waves Latte

The latte was pretty good and is a great size. It is an espresso based drink that is bold and balanced. The steamed milk that sits on top makes the drink sweeter. Some people add sugar, but I just like it as is. The latte art is definitely a plus.

Go grab one before January ends.
