Laowai: Launching Volume 4 of its Cocktail Card

Laowai, the Prohibition-era, Shanghai-themed hidden lounge in Chinatown, has launched Volume 4 of its historically themed cocktail menu, lauded as “fascinating” by Canada’s 100 Best.

As with its previous incarnation, each cocktail on the new list is inspired by a singular figure whose life or legend has woven itself into the history of China and/or Shanghai. Their stories are told alongside their libations, as with Chen Shuozhen, the female warrior behind the Rebel Yell; the “inventor” of alcohol, Du Kang, who sparked the Against the Grain; and even Winnipeg-born conman C.C. Julian, whose oilfield grift produced the Crude Awakening.

“Since opening, our cocktail program has been praised for paralleling those of the best bars in the world,” says Laowai owner, Lewis Hart. “So, it’s extremely exciting to see so much anticipation for this new cocktail volume both locally and afar from our peers and the public alike.”

Laowai has also continued to expand its Baijiu programme with new offerings, maintaining its position with the largest Baijiu menu of its kind anywhere in Canada.

Located behind BLND TGER Dumplings, Laowai is open 6 days a week, Tuesday through Sunday with service beginning at 5pm. “Ask for the Number 7”.

Patrons are welcomed on a first come, first served basis.
