Meet Hachiro, the new evolution of North Vancouver’s Hachiro Ramen, bringing a new vision under the direction of Chef Addy Gowe that makes way for an expanded menu of Japanese-inspired dishes, late night bar bites, and weekend dim sum as of tomorrow, Friday, September 10.

Originally opened in 2019 by owner/operator Brooke Naito-Campbell, the Central Lonsdale restaurant welcomes newly appointed Chef Gowe, who brings her diverse culinary background in notable restaurants such as Bufala Edgemont, Torafuku, Quattro and Wildebeest, along with extensive experience in the Okanagan wine industry.

Japanese tradition meets new world flavours in Gowe’s menu where small plates can be enjoyed family-style to share the experience. New additions to the tapas-style menu include tuna or beef tataki (seared striploin or tuna, ponzu sauce and scallions)Hachiro ‘dirty fries’ (okonomiyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, cabbage, and fried chashu), a line-up of bar snacks, shareable plates and rotating seasonal features.

Popular in Japan as part of ‘chuka ryori’ Japanese-Chinese cuisine and a favourite of Naito-Campbell’s Japanese grandfather, Hachiro, for whom the restaurant is named, yum cha (or dim sum) dishes include classics such as har gow steamed shrimp dumplings and xiao long bao pork soup dumplings, as well as Japanese-inspired dishes like gyoza and brussel sprouts and broccoli okonomiyaki, Hachiro’s take on a traditional okonomiyaki pancake.

“We’re excited to share the next evolution of Hachiro with our guests,” says Naito-Campbell. “We want to be a gathering spot to come with your nearest and dearest to share a meal, dim sum or late night snack, and try something new in a welcoming atmosphere.”

Hachiro’s new menu will also include beautifully crafted cocktails such as the Shinsen (ginger liqueur, shochu, lemon, lychee juice, ginger, Mt. Fuji bitters and a butterfly pea flower ice cube), or the Tokyo Mule (shochu, Campari, clove syrup, strawberry, lime juice, and ginger beer).
