UBC’s Vancouver campus is about to get extra hot n’ spicy. DL Chicken, Vancouver’s OG destination for Nashville Hot Chicken, is entering the land of the Thunderbirds, bringing its signature flavours, hospitality, and heat to restaurant row at University Boulevard Central with the opening of its second location. DL Chicken will officially kick-start the fryers the first week of classes in September.

“We are extremely excited to be part of UBC’s campus and share our love of fried chicken with new and current fans,” says Doug Stephen, who co-owns DL Chicken with his wife and business partner Lindsey Mann. “When we opened our first location three years ago, we could not have foreseen the amazing support we have received thus far. We are so very thankful. And now with our second location, we are in great company on University Boulevard.”

The 1,600 square foot counter service-style eatery features 50 seats inside and on its patio. Guests will be able to take-out, dine-in, and soon, order online for pick-up.

The menu highlights all of DL Chicken’s classic and popular items, including: Hot Chicken sandos in various heat levels, from mild, medium, and hot to extra hot and a Side of Milk; fried chicken by the piece and combos; special flavours, such as pizza, ranch, lemon pepper, and jerk; chicken tenders with housemade dips; and sides, such as pickles, potato salad, friends, mac salad, and DL’s sweet ‘n sour slaw. An exclusive spice dust is also in the works.

Both Stephen and Mann personally designed the industrial-inspired but warm interior space. Guests will find a marquee “eat it on the DL” neon sign, a large DL Chicken monogram wall installation, natural wood, and black, red, and white steel accents in the expansive room.

“The space definitely reflects the style of our original location as we wanted to ensure the DL DNA is prevalent throughout with the colours, textures, and prints,” adds Mann. “We also drew inspiration from the surrounding community and can’t wait to open our doors next month!”

DL Chicken OG opened in 2018 on Commercial Drive, bringing the Nashville Hot Chicken concept to Vancouver. Since then, it has become a cult favourite, often with line-ups during peak times of the day.
