Nammos Estiatorio to host Tsiknopempti on February 20, 2025

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Nammos Estiatorio invites the community to stop by and experience Tsiknopempti, also known as “Smoky Thursday,” a classic Greek carnival tradition celebrated before Lent. For one day only, the team will fire up the grill outside and prepare a feast of meats, skewers, lamb chops and more for guests to indulge. There will also be some fun surprises. Reservations are available online.

“Tsiknopempti is about bringing people together over the love of great food and Greek traditions,” says Yianni Kerasiotis, who co-owns Nammos Estiatorio and several other neighbourhood favourites, Loula’s TavernaSelene Aegean Bistro, and AMA, with his brother Petro Kerasiotis. “It’s always an incredible celebration. This year, we’ll definitely have a spit roasting outside, as well as our popular skewers. We’re excited to share this experience with our guests and showcase the warm hospitality of Greek culture.”

Tsiknopempti (Τσικνοπέμπτη) falls on the second week of the Greek Carnival season, or “Creatine Week” (Κρεατινή Εβδομάδα). The name translates to “Smoky Thursday” or “Barbecue Thursday,” with “tsikna” referring to the unmistakable aroma of grilled meat and “Pempti” meaning Thursday. In Greece, the day is marked by gatherings with family and friends, lively music, and the joy of sharing traditional dishes.

Nammos’s a la carte menu will be available alongside its special Tsiknopempti Menu, which will include: Kontosouvli, slow-roasted marinated pork cooked on a spit outside; and Loukaniko, Greek sausage of pork or lamb with orange zest and a variety of herbs.

“Growing up, I always looked forward to Tsiknopempti. It’s a feast and a celebration and a great way to reconnect with friends and family,” adds Yianni.
