World-renowned Japanese noodle restaurant Marugame Udon is set to make its Canadian debut with the opening of its first location in Vancouver at 589 Beatty Street this winter. Through its distinctive theatre-like atmosphere where noodles are hand-cut and boiled on the spot, Marugame Udon will offer an unrivalled opportunity to experience an authentic taste of Japan right here in Downtown Vancouver.

With a global presence spanning over 8 countries and more than 1,000 locations worldwide (including 244 overseas locations), Marugame Udon’s Vancouver opening marks a major milestone as the brand’s inaugural foray into the Canadian market.

Marugame Udon is known for its made-to-order Sanuki-style udon, complemented with enticing selections of freshly fried tempura. Sanuki-style udon is a specific type of udon noodle originating from Japan’s Kagawa Prefecture, formerly known as the Sanuki region, and is one of the most popular and widely recognized udon varieties in Japan. Sanuki-style udon is made from a simple combination of high-quality wheat flour, water, and salt.

The hallmark of Sanuki-style udon, however, is how thick, chewy, and slightly firmer the noodles are compared to other udon varieties – this is the unique “Marugame texture.” Paired with their signature house-made fragrant soup stock that coats all four sides of each strand of noodle and a variety of toppings, every serving of udon at Marugame is a culinary experience that engages multiple senses.

While menu details for Marugame Udon’s Vancouver restaurant are being finalized, guests can anticipate a selection of signature udon bowls and golden-fried tempura with several vegetarian options, all offered at an approachable price point in a lively and immersive setting.

Upon entering a Marugame Udon restaurant, guests are greeted by an uplifting and energetic atmosphere. The open kitchen creates a dynamic and engaging environment, allowing patrons to watch their meals being prepared. The restaurant is designed to draw customers in, stimulating their senses with the sights, sounds, and aromas of Marugame’s freshly cooked udon and tempura.

In addition to the theatrical kitchen experience, Marugame Udon’s core promises of Atmosphere, Accessibility, and Authenticity are evident throughout the restaurant. The staff is warm and inviting, guiding guests through their dining experience with enthusiasm and expertise. The restaurant space is thoughtfully designed, featuring a glass façade that offers a glimpse into the culinary world inside. The distinctive Udon Square Icon is prominently displayed, and graphic walls tell the rich story of udon, adding an exciting element of visual interest to the dining area.

With a prime location in Downtown Vancouver, Marugame Udon is conveniently situated a short walk from the Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain station. It is close to several major venues, including BC Place, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and Rogers Arena, as well as office buildings and schools, making it an ideal choice for a quick-service meal for local workers, students, and event-goers.

“We are thrilled to introduce Marugame Udon to the vibrant city of Vancouver. Our goal is to foster cultural exchange through the rich and authentic flavours of Sanuki-style udon and tempura, offering a truly unique culinary experience” said Victor Hisao Misawa, President, and General Manager, Marugame Udon International who has planned to be at the Vancouver Marugame Udon grand opening.
