Port Moody’s popular food truck, Mama Said Pizza Co., is gearing up to open its first brick-and-mortar location near the city’s Brewers Row. Located at 3135 Murray Street, guests can start grabbing a slice or two with a pint and more officially starting on April 21, 2023.

The 1,100 square feet space, designed by Amber Johnson of Establishment Interior Design, features 28 seats, including several red banquet booths and flatscreen TVs to give the room a New York-inspired restaurant/sports bar vibe with industrial aesthetics.

“We’ve been part of the Port Moody community for a while now, and wanted to open a casual restaurant where the neighbourhood can come in with their family and friends, and with the truck, we can see how pizza brings people together,” says Cody Allmin, co-founder of Boxset Collective, who co-founded Port Moody’s Twin Sails Brewing with his brother Clay. “What’s great about the new place is we can start experimenting with more dishes and drinks that complement our favourite pizzas. Vanessa is super creative in the kitchen, and there is a lot to look forward to.”

Mama Said pizzas are known for its big slices, and “hot honey on crust option”, focusing on its Brooklyn-style, a cross between New York and Neapolitan, where the crust has spotting like a Neapolitan pizza, but is crispy and chewy like ones found in New York.

The restaurant will have all of the truck’s favourites, such as: Pine & Swing with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, bacon, caramelized pineapple, and grana padano; Hugh Fungus with white sauce, mozzarella, mushroom, caramelized onion, braised fennel, grana padano, and arugula; and The Mama with tomato sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, prosciutto, pesto, arugula, grana padano, and honey sesame crust.

New additions to the menu include: Day Walker with black garlic sauce, mushroom, caramelized onion, olive tapenade, grana padano, and fennel fronds; Bianco with white sauce, mozzarella, toasted rosemary, and hot honey; and Papa Roni with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni (roni cups upgrade available), fennel seed, and grana padano. In addition, guests can order from a few select sides, such as salads, Mama’s Bread, meatballs, and desserts.

“Sharing great food with people is my passion, and it’ll be amazing to have customers be able to stay with us, enjoy their meal, and have a little drink,” adds Vanessa Casilla, chef and co-owner at Mama Said Pizza Co., who has been with the company since the beginning and helped create everything from scratch, from getting their first truck license, to creating their signature sourdough-style pizza dough. “We can now create even more new items on the menu, but still retain our playfulness at the same time, but with a larger team. We’re known for doing our own takes on familiar flavours, like our limited-edition taco pizza, Porque no Los Dos, or eggs with The Morning After. Expect more of that!”

Guests can pair their pizzas, appetizers, desserts and more with a variety of drinks, including a rotating selection of beer, cocktails and non-alc options by Boxset Collective’s beverage director, Joe Casson, and a robust wine list by Boxset Collective’s wine director and Michelin Guide Vancouver’s Sommelier of the Year, Jayton Paul.

Although Mama Said Pizza Co. has now moved into a brick-and-mortar location, the truck will live on, with a new menu coming in late spring.

At launch, Mama Said Pizza Co., will be open from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. on weekends. First come, first serve seating to start. Takeaways can be ordered through their website for pick-up or directly at the restaurant, with delivery available through UberEats.
