49th Parallel Coffee Roasters, a BC-founded specialty coffee company, announced today the opening of its newest location at 93 Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver’s Lower Lonsdale neighbourhood. This location marks the company’s fifth cafe nationally and the company’s first on the North Shore.

The 2,045 square foot cafe is situated in a heritage building, featuring elements that pull from Lonsdale’s mercantile history. The design takes inspiration from the original occupant in the early 1900s, a hardware store, with repurposed materials that immediately make the café feel authentic and permanent. The space features a beautifully lit doughnut display, retail space and a large corner window into the kitchen, so customers can watch the doughnuts take shape.

To celebrate the opening, 49th Parallel has released a limited edition single origin filter roast called: ‘North Shore.’ This 100% Parainema variety lot is produced by Juan Evangelista on his farm in Honduras and roasted in small batches at 49th Parallel’s roastery in Vancouver, BC. The North Shore roast tastes of bright red fruit acidity balanced with a deep spice sweetness,  giving the coffee a creamy, syrupy mouthfeel. The North Shore will be available for purchase in café or online at www.49thcoffee.com

“The Lower Lonsdale neighbourhood is steeped in history. We wanted to honour the neighbourhood with a café and gathering place that reflects its past while the community can experience first hand what makes 49th Parallel a west coast favourite,” says Geraint James, Director Cafés at 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters. “From the second customers walk through the door, to the moment they take their first sip of coffee, or bite of Lucky’s doughnuts, we are here to make a lasting impression that 49th Parallel is your café.”

Equally important to the coffee drinking experience delivered by 49th Parallel is Lucky’s Doughnuts. The Lonsdale location will have fresh doughnuts made in-house every morning with seasonal, locally sourced, high-quality ingredients. Executive Chef, Karly Pomes, is introducing a limited edition doughnut flavour aptly named the Mountain Highway, celebrating the company’s newest home. This doughnut features a pastry made with the new North Shore blend, chocolate ganache, topped with pecans and a chocolate dipped snow covered marshmallow to represent the local mountains.

49th Parallel Lonsdale officially opens its doors to the public on March 25 and will be open seven days a week from 7am – 5 pm. Customers at all locations can order ahead on the 49th Parallel App, where they can receive exclusive deals and shop for their favourite coffee.

  1. I would have liked to LOVE this place but sadly, 49th Coffee is cashless, and so I will not return. Canadian dollars are our national currency and to not accept it is frankly, unacceptable. The danger of a cashless society is very real with the looming threat of Digital ID and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC’s) we must not support cashless businesses. Sorry 49th Parallel & Foodology, you must do better; your business is discriminatory.
