At T&T, it is easy to find a variety of drinks from around the world. I often walk up and down the drink aisle and every single time I see these weird Thai drink that I am deathly afraid of.
Since I was really bored that day, I decided to buy this and try it out.
Even though I did buy it, I spent a while looking at the basil seeds suspended in the drink. It kinda reminded me of floating mould. Not very aesthetically pleasing. It probably took me 2 days till I had the courage to drink it. Even M was quite afraid of what I had bought. I know they are edible but you have to agree they look nasty.
When I finally took a gulp of this, it tasted ok. You don’t taste the basil seeds and the flavour was just like water and honey.
I personally didn’t like the flavour of this drink since they honey or sugar was a bit too much. I think I will stick to having my basil seeds from desserts at Bubble Fruity.

Very common in Asia, especially Southeast Asia, but I’ve also seen drinks made with basil seeds in Taiwan.
Also found in Central America, they call it “chiang”.. ch-yee-ang. You can buy small bags of this at grocery stores and prepare your own drinks. Just add water, (or use juice, rose water, etc) and honey & lemon juice.
I love this stuff, my mom always makes a couple pitchers and leaves it in the fridge during summer.
Your blog post reminds me to look out for basil seeds! I heard they’re super food for weight loss. Apparently they suck toxins and improve digestion and it’s good for blood sugar levels too.
I think I’ll avoid this drink from T&T though and give Bubble Fruity a try 🙂
@Kevin thanks for the info! This calls for a little experiment!
@Janice hahaha. In the mood for a diet before Summer begins? Bubble Fruity is super good so do give it a try!
