Orbitz: the Forgotten Drink With Balls

You must already be confused, isn’t Orbitz a travel agency, to answer that question it is. But, a long time ago, there was a drink with the same name.

In 1997, Clearly Canadian Beverage Corp. introduced a non carbonated fruity drink called Obitz. The unique thing about Orbitz is that they have tiny little balls floating inside. They came in several flavours such as:

  • Raspberry Citrus (introductory flavor)
  • Blueberry Melon Strawberry (introductory flavor)
  • Pineapple Banana Cherry Coconut (introductory flavor)
  • Vanilla Orange (introductory flavor)
  • Black Currant Berry (introduced later)
  • Charlie Brown Chocolate (introduced later)

When I was about 10 years old, I remember me and my sister would bother my mom at the local market to buy us Orbitz. I honestly had no idea what it was, but it was really cool shaking the bottle to see the little balls move up and down.

You could probably say it was like a lava lamp that you would never have to plug in. Even if you left it there to sit in your room, it looked super cool.

The drink did not stay in the market very long due to horrible reviews and low sales.

As a kid I only liked it because of the look. The taste on the other hand was very questionable. Reminded me of medicine. Perhaps it would have been better if it was a carbonated beverage.

As of today, if you do still have an old bottle of this drink it is now a collectors item. People have been selling there drink of Ebay for $10 – $20.

This is probably the most memorable drink I have ever had as a kid. Do you have any favorite discontinued drinks from your childhood?

  1. I have an original bottle..somewhere. I also have a knock off looking one from China.

If you got your hand on an original one, would you drink it? 😀

  2. I used to get jealous when I saw others drink this when I was younger. Unfortunately we weren’t financially stable to even get a bottle of this as my mom would say “for the price of one bottle it would be smarter to buy a few veggies for dinner!.” Ah those were the days 😛

My friend in the 2nd grade at that time poured half of his bottle for me and it was an OMG moment for me 🙂

As for discontinued drinks, I wish they would bring back Pepsi Blue (others thought it was gross I thought it was awesome), and for my older brother, Crystal Pepsi.

  3. I miss Tahiti Treat !! I totally remember Orbitz, New York Seltzer and Squeeze-Its. Ah yes and pepsi clear and blue. That was grade 9 for me lol

    Btw your blog is great!

  4. OMG i want this drink back sooo bad!

and another one that i like was Mellow Yellow, ohhh dear that was good haha

  5. Wow, I forgot about this. I thought it was gross, as I have a texture issue… but flavour-wise yummy.

Well I think they should have a come back on this one. Maybe just maybe it will do better. Kids these days like that kind of stuff. I know my daughter would be happy she loved it. She would get my grand daughter into it too.
