White Spot and Triple O’s have become the first restaurant chains in Canada to launch the Impossible Burger. As most restaurants and fast food chains offer up Beyond Meat. Last year, White Spot launched their Avocado Beyond Burger for a limited time. They no longer have this burger on the menu.

We haven’t had the Impossible burger patty before, so we were really really keen to see how the taste compares.

The Avocado Impossible Burger

The Avocado Impossible Burger is their signature item on the menu and it has fresh avocado, pickled onions, crisp lettuce, vine-ripened tomatoes, jalapeño ranch. It is served with a choice of Caesar salad, The Spot’s Salad, or creamy coleslaw and ‘endless’ Kennebec fries.

You can sub the Impossible patty to any burger on the menu.

My husband got the Avocado Impossible Burger and started making his own substitutions. He added bacon strips and cheddar cheese.

Monty Mushroom Bigger Burger with Impossible Burger Patty

This has a Impossible burger patty with Jack cheese, roasted mushrooms, lettuce, tomato and their signature Triple “O” sauce. It definitely wasn’t ‘bigger’ and very minimal mushrooms. Not sure if it was the location that we got it from, but if you want more mushrooms, you can always add more for a small fee.

Impossible Burger Patty Taste Test

The Impossible Burger Patty is very well done and we wouldn’t have noticed it was plant based. It has the right amount of spices, good texture, and look. With the addition of the tomato, it looks like it ‘bleeds’.

Overall, we were impressed with the Impossible Burger patty as it wasn’t dry. If you’re looking for a plant-based alternative on the White Spot menu, definitely consider it. We really enjoyed it and didn’t miss the beef patty.

The Impossible Burger is made from proteins, flavors, fats, and binders.

  • Protein from soy and potatoes
  • Flavor from heme (the molecule that makes meat taste, well, meaty)
  • Fat from coconut and sunflower oils make it sizzle on the griddle
  • Binders, methylcellulose and food starch, hold it together so you can make anything you want — meatballs, kebabs, patties, and more.

You can read more about the Impossible burger on their website.

White Lotus Cafe just opened up in North Burnaby in a plaza with Buy Low Foods. A few people told me to check this place out as people in the neighbourhood seem to enjoy it. They serve up a variety of Vietnamese cuisine.

Interior

The space is small inside and there are only about 4 tables. At peak times, it’ll be hard to get a table, so come early or even do take out. They seem to do a good amount of take out and delivery.

Menu

Vietnamese Coffee

An essential item to order at a Vietnamese restaurant is their coffee. It has condensed milk and freshly brewed coffee. It’s a bit strong for some but so good with the condensed milk. Make sure to mix it well.

The White Lotus Platter

You get 2 pieces of each item – BBQ pork skewers, meat patties, spring rolls, and sugar cane shrimp. It also comes with a variety of vegetables, vermicelli noodles, and fish sauce.

It’s a good item to share with the table with the variety of items that comes with this platter.

Com Rice Platter

This dish has broken rice with vegetables and a side of fish sauce and soup. You can choose between lemongrass chicken, lemongrass pork chop, or meat patty. M chose his with lemongrass chicken and added a fried egg on top.

The chicken had a lot of good flavour of lemongrass and was a solid meal.

Bun Bo Hue

This has vermicelli noodles in a spicy beef broth with slices of beef shank, pork meat, and Vietnamese ham. It is then topped with cilantro, coriander, and green onions. You can choose from mild, medium, or hot spiciness level too.

I went with medium and it was quite spicy and I can handle a good amount of spice. Other than that, the broth was clear and clean tasting, which was nice. There is also a good amount of meat in there too.

BBQ Pork Banh Mi Sandwich

We got take out for their banh mi sandwiches to get a good sense of the menu. Their buttered baguette is stuffed with mayo, pate, cilantro, cucumbers, jalapenos, pickled daikon, carrots and BBQ Pork. M added extra meat and fried egg into his.

Cold Cut Banh Mi Sandwich

This has their buttered baguette with mayo, pate, cilantro, cucumbers, jalapenos, pickled daikon, carrots and cold cuts. This is their regular size and it’s still a great size for $5. The bread was crisp on the exterior and fluffy inside. The pickled veggies were a bit sweet for my personal taste, but I still liked the amount of meat.

Final Thoughts

Overall, it’s a great addition to the neighbourhood with decent Vietnamese cuisine. You can dine in or do take out and the prices are reasonable for the area.

Hopcott Premium Meats is a third generation family-run butcher shop located on their family farm in Pitt Meadows. They are committed to bringing quality, local, farm-fresh products to their customers. I personally find it hard to seek a good transparent butcher, so it’s great that there are more options that just going to a chain grocery store.

We spent about an hour here shopping as well as enjoying food at their bistro.

Interior

The space is a good size filled with local produce and goods that will take your meal to the next level. They partner with a lot of great local producers, so you will find some unique products here like sauces, rubs and marinades. Keep an eye out on their shelves because there is a lot of unique items.

Butchery

As beef is raised and grown on their farm, they can guarantee it’s non-gmo, no-added hormones or steroids added. The other local meats are source from reliable local producers as well. If you need some more guidance, their friendly and knowledgeable team can help you make the right and healthy choices for your family’s next meal.

Looking at their display cases, the meat looks fresh and there are so many cuts to choose from.

They have weekly specials posted on their website every week, so you can see what they deals are before you come for a visit. There are some marinated meats too if you want an easy meal.

Deli

Their deli section is large too with different kinds of pepperoni,  salami, and other cured meats. When we were here, all pepperoni sticks were $1, which was an awesome deal.

You’ll also find hams and various types of bacon too.

Fresh Produce

If you’re looking for fresh produce, they have a small section where you can find what you need.

As it’s now apple season, there is an awesome chart where you can see how all the apples in BC compare in sweetness and sweetness. A good guide since I always forget.

Don’t forget gourds and pumpkins too. Since it’s almost October, this means pumpkin pies and beautiful Fall decor.

Whatever is in season, you’ll most likely find here.

The Bistro

Inside Hopcott Premium Meats, you’ll find their bistro serving up homemade lunch and drinks. They use their own meats and locally-sourced ingredients into their menu.

Menu

The prices are fair. It’s a small menu but there something for everyone.

Seating

The bistro has a good amount of seating and on a nice day, you can head out to their patio to enjoy lunch and the sunshine.

Cappuccino

We got cappuccinos to start off our lunch. Nice ratio of foam to espresso, plus a sprinkling of cocoa on top.

Bob’s Burger

We got this because of the name. hahaha. It’s a great cartoon show. This burger has panko crusted pickled Jalapeños, Honey Chipotle sauce, cheddar and Monterey jack cheese , tomato and lettuce in between toasted burger buns. You get your choice of fries or salad on the side.

If you don’t want the added carbs, you can get your burger in a lettuce wrap.

Clubhouse

I love a good clubhouse sandwich, so it has turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on marble rye bread. It was a hefty sandwich as it had 3 layers of bread. Really good and I had to balance it with the fries. I asked them to make them extra crispy too.

Final Thoughts

Hopcott Premium Meats is a great place to do some quick shopping for quality ingredients and while you are there, you can stop for some lunch at their bistro. I’ll be back for sure to get some nice cuts of meat for dinner or even for the grill. Whatever specialty cut you need, they can help you out.

Farrow Sandwiches is located in the Garneau neighbourhood of Edmonton. I stopped here for lunch to grab and sandwich and drink since I heard it was a must when in town.

They have another location in Ritchie.

Interior

The space is pretty small and there are only a few seats by the window and outside. A lot of people did take out as it is pretty hot inside in the Summer.

Grick Middle Sandwich

This has Four Whistle Farms fried egg, bacon, smoked cheddar, rosemary aioli and arugula. The sandwich was good. The bun was very soft and the fried egg and bacon were balanced by the arugula.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the quick lunch I had was good. They also have freshly baked donuts too, but I didn’t have space for it this time.

Banh Mi Tres Bon is a new restaurant in Richmond by the Walmart Super Centre. I’ve heard lots about this place, so I decided to come here after work to grab some dinner with M before we went home. We don’t spend a lot of time in Richmond, but when we do, it’s for eating.

Interior

The space isn’t too large but can fit small to large groups if you come at non-peak hours. On a weekday, it did start getting busy later in the evening. There were other couples and families coming here.

Menu

Savoury Mini Crepes

This comes in a hot cast iron pan and has 7 pieces of mini crepes. This is one of their popular dishes. There is a jar of fish sauce that you pour into each slot and it starts steaming up due to the heat. As much as it looks great in a photo, I didn’t really like the taste of it as the fish sauce wasn’t the best pairing in my opinion.

Vietnamese Fresh Soy Milk

This soy milk is very unique and seems like it is infused with pandan, which was very nice and subtle.

Phở Très Bon

I got the beef tenderloin and meatball noodle soup. The broth was very clear and delicious with depths of flavour. There is even a piece of decadent bone marrow too. There were a lot of jalapeños but it wasn’t too spicy.

There is lime, bean sprouts, and basil on the side on this cute boat. You can add it to the pho to add more flavour to it.

Bánh Mì Jambon-house special

This has Vietnamese ham & braised pork belly. The bun is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Delicious flavours.

Butter Garlic Chicken Wings

We also ordered some crispy chicken wings. Nice and crispy. It comes super hot and right from the fryer, so you’ll want to wait for it to cool down.

Final Thoughts

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with the food here and we’ll definitely be back for more pho and banh mi.

Zwicks Pretzels makes awesome pretzels in Edmonton. When I was visiting for a few days, I came twice to try a few different things off the menu.  The shop has free parking out front if you’re driving here.

Interior

You order up at the counter and its all to go. There is one table in the store, but most people get their sandwichzels and pretzels to go.

There isn’t any AC, so it can get very toasty and uncomfortable inside.

Menu

There are so many options here and the menu is written all over their chalkboard walls.

Bacon and Egg Sandwichzels

Inside, you will find house-cured back bacon, cheddar, egg and grilled tomato on a pretzel bun. The cheddar was griddled so nicely that it had a bit of a crust to it. SO GOOD. I highly recommend this.

McZwick Sandwichzels

This was a little different and it has warm roasted chicken, candied bacon, mozzarella & paprika aioli on their pretzel bun. A little more decadent and greasy, but equally as good. The bacon is nice and thick too.

Garlic Butter Pretzel

I had to get a basic pretzel to see how it is so I went with garlic butter. It had a nice texture and so soft in the centre. There was a good amount of garlic butter on the outside too.

Final Thoughts

Upon first bite, I was addicted to their pretzels and sandwiches. A taste that I definitely won’t forget. You need to make a stop here for their food. It’s so comforting and so damn good. Probably one of the best pretzels I’ve ever had.

The first stop in New York when we got into the city was to get a bite of Luke’s Lobster for dinner in the financial district. They serve up sustainable seafood straight from the source and pair seafood with chowders and bisques, Maine-style sides, local desserts, natural sodas, and local microbrews. Luke’s Lobster first opened its doors in the East Village in 2009 and now has multiple locations across the country.

Interior

The decor is reminiscent of a dock or boats which matches with the seafood. Since it was late into the evening, there wasn’t anyone else here, so we had the whole place to ourselves.

Menu

Luke’s Trio

Luke’s Trio give you a sampling of each roll. You get 1/2 lobster roll, 1/2 crab roll, and 1/2 shrimp roll.

The sizes are pretty small, so if you eat them all, you’ll definitely need a few extra items to go along with your meal. The lobster roll was good but it was gobbled up as quickly as it took to prepare the meal.

The crab roll is filled with Jonah Crab and it subtly sweet and delicious.

The shrimp roll uses North Atlantic Shrimp between the toasted bun. Naturally sweet and enjoyable as well.

Lobster Mac & Cheese

This has pasta shells in a creamy, mascarpone-cheddar blend with tender chunks of lobster, topped with garlic herb breadcrumbs. The lobster was buried under all the breadcrumbs and pasta, so there as a bit of digging to be done to ind the pieces of lobster. It was good but the size was also a bit small.

Clam Chowder

This is a New England- style clam chowder. We got a small size to share between the two of us. Warm, hearty and enjoyable.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the food was delicious and fresh, but it was a bit pricey for what we’re used to. It can get expensive if you want to get full. I would recommend coming here for a snack rather than a full meal.

Roost Cafe and Bistro has been around for about a year in the Chinatown/Strathcona neighbourhood. I came here for lunch with a friend since we wanted to try something new close by our office. I ended up finding this place through Google Maps. We saw they had some avocado toast, so we wanted to give it a try.

Interior

The interior is very cute and hip. They’ve really transformed the space to suit the people moving into this neighbourhood. They have bar seats, patio seats and a few tables inside.

Soup of the Day

We originally wanted some avocado toast, but they ran out of avocados before noon, so C went with the soup of the day which was a tomato soup. It is served with buttered sourdough toast. It was not very impressive.

Sandwich of the Day

I originally wanted another sandwich, but since there were no avocados in sight, I went with the sandwich of the day, which had pesto, ham, cheese and tomato between 2 slices of sourdough bread. It is served with a side salad with vinaigrette dressing. It was ok, but a bit pricey for $12.

Overall, we were not very impressed by this lunch experience. For the neighbourhood, the food is a bit pricey. It was too bad they didn’t have avocados stocked on a Tuesday since that option would have been better.

While in Vegas, I always have to try to eat as much as I can. One go-to place for breakfast is Eggslut in the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Eggslut originated from Los Angeles and there are a few other location in the states.

On a Friday, I wandered down to Eggslut to get a taste of their breakfast sandwiches and there was already a line at 10am.

The line looked long, but I waited about 10 minutes before putting in my order. Waiting for the food wasn’t too bad.

There is minimal seating, so if you are in a large group, you’ll be out of luck getting a seat. If you are insistent about getting a seat, you’ll just have to wait. The turnaround time is quite quick.

Sausage, Egg and cheese sandwich

This was delicious and perfect for the morning. The sausage patty had lots of flavour and wasn’t too salty. A good balance of ingredients. The egg yolk was slightly runny, so when I bit into the sandwich, I got it all over my shirt. Napkins are definitely needed.

Fresh Pressed Orange Juice

What better way to balance out all the food I’ve been having in Vegas with some fresh orange juice. A good pairing with the sandwiches here, but I wish there was more pulp in their juice.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really enjoyed it and I wish I had more than one sandwich. I’ll definitely be back next time. There’s a good amount of choices on their menu and it’s a quick meal.

Las Tortas is a restaurant on Cambie Street that serves up Mexican cuisine as is known for their tortas – Mexican sandwiches. M and I were in the area and needed some dinner, so I thought we should stop here to grab a quick bite since I haven’t been here before and we are both huge fans of Mexican food.

Interior

The interior is small and decorated with movie posters. You order up at the counter and find your seat. We came here right after work, so it wasn’t busy at all.

Horchata and Mexican Cola

We got a drink each. I went with the horchata and it was good but a little gritty on the bottom from the almonds. Finding Mexican Coca-Cola is a joy as it tastes better as its made with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.

Tortilla Soup

The tortilla soup comes in a large bowl, so M and I split this between us. The tortillas were hiding inside and got soggy by the time we dug in. I didn’t really like it.

Chorizo Con Huevo Torta

This torta has Mexican spicy sausage, egg, and veggies between the buns. It was a delicious blend of egg and sausage.

Carne Asada Torta

This was similar to the other torta, but it has grilled asada steak and Oaxaca cheese. This was our favourite of the 2 tortas. It is more meaty, but the jalapenos were a bit much for me.

Churro

Churros are made fresh and it is powdered with cinnamon and sugar on the outside. Too bad that it doesn’t come with dipping sauces.

Final Thoughts

Overall, it was a great place to stop by for a torta. I enjoyed the tortas, but the other items were a bit of a miss. They also have tacos, which I will have to come back for a revisit.

Estrella’s has been one of our favourite places in Langley for their gigantic Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwiches. Everything is made from scratch, so the definitely don’t compromise on taste or quality.

They are known for their O Canada-sized sandwiches with smoked meat piled high. We come here on Saturday mornings as they are closed on Sundays.

Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich

This is a beast. Sliced Old Fashioned Montreal Smoked Beef Brisket on light rye bread with your choice of regular or dijon mustard. You can choose from lean, medium or fatty. Of course we chose the biggest size – O Canada and had it fatty. It’s so good and can be split between 2 people.

Poutine

A good Canadian classic – Poutine. Has crisp fries topped with gravy and cheese curds. You can also add some smoked meat on top too. We just went with the basics as we already had the huge sandwich to start.

Roast Beef Panini Sandwich

It has roast beef, caramelized onions, horseradish, mayo and swiss cheeese. It is served on crispy ciabatta bread and comes with a pickle. Not as monstrous as the smoked meat sandwich, but it was delicious.

Overall, I really love to go to this place for their Montreal Smoked Meat. The staff are friendly and it’s not too busy here. I’ll be back again.

Sweet Inspiration is serving (M) Ikes’s Place Sandwiches and I was very confused about this location and why it was called Mike’s Place. When I was in town, I spent quite a lot of time searching online if I was going to the right location. Long story short, Ike’s lost their lease to their original location and collaborated with Sweet Inspiration to serve his sandwiches, but they couldn’t name it Ike’s Place due to some city violation, so they changed it to Mike’s Place.

As we got here, we were still very confused if we would be getting authentic Ike’s Sandwiches.

There was plenty of sandwiches to choose from. We got them to-go and decided to eat it before our flight back to Vancouver.

Wonzo Sandwich

Wonzo Sandwich has Halal chicken, Ranch, Bacon, and Cheddar. It is also served with lettuce and tomatoes. You can have your sandwich with your choice of bread – Dutch Crunch, SF Sourdough, French Roll, Whole Wheat, or Gluten-Free. We went with dutch crunch.

Montana Sandwich

Montana Sandwich has Halal chicken, Asian Sesame Dressing, Bacon, Avocado, and Jack cheese. I went with the SF Sourdough.

Both sandwiches were very heavy and filling, but taste wise, it was a bit mediocre. It was a bit heavy on the dressing.

Tractor Foods is finally open in Mount Pleasant close on 2nd and Quebec. They serve up healthy food for everyday. I’ve been waiting for this location to open for a very long time.

I work close to this area and there aren’t too many healthy food options around. There a few other places, but fast food still dominate.

Interior

tractor-2

The interior isn’t too large. A decent amount of seats, but since it’s so popular, you will have a lard time finding a seat at noon.

I did see some people doing take out and going back to the office. I came here with a large group, so we got here at 11:30 and got a table for 8 people.

Ordering

The menu is the same as the other locations. You go up to the counter, put in your order, and pay for it at the other end.

It’s like a nicer cafeteria style line.

tractor-3

Food

tractor-6

Wild mushrooms, ditalini pasta, truffled ricotta cheese, and fresh herbs was a nice pasta salad. A good amount of mushrooms.

Grilled avocado is something you gotta add to your meal. Something about a grilled avocado with salt and pepper is so good.

tractor-7

Half Turkey Sandwich has turkey thigh, smoked gouda, alfalfa sprouts, arugula, pesto aioli, and house pickled cucumbers, on a sourdough bread. Nicely grilled on both sides and its a bit crunchy. A good sandwich.

tractor-9

Watermelon salad has cucumber, pumpkin seeds, and goat’s milk feta.

Arugula salad has grilled pears, candied walnuts, blue cheese, and a champagne vinaigrette.

Also, a Grilled Avocado!

crumb-sandwich-shop-4

Crumb Sandwich Shop is a small shop serving sandwiches, focaccia, soups, and salads during lunch or for large corporate orders.

You can order through Food.ee in Vancouver or straight from their website. Best to make the order ahead of time if you can.

I was invited by Crumb Sandwich Shop to give a few of their sandwiches a try.

crumb-sandwich-ship-6

They don’t have a branded storefront, so they are in a commissary kitchen near Beta 5 Chocolates. There’s a row of stores, so head down to the very last one to find Crumb Sandwich Shop.  If you see Commissary Connect, you’re in the right place.

crumb-sandwich-ship-5

Curried Pork & Grape has roasted pork loin, black currant, pea tendrils, caramelized grape, fennel, curry aioli on the organic multigrain. What made this sandwich unique is that curry aioli, it was very nice and added a lot of flavour to the sandwich.

crumb-sandwich-ship-2

Fried Chicken has buttermilk fried chicken, pea sprouts, radicchio, apple, cilantro, lime, chili, and honey. Nice crunchy chicken with a good amount of breading.

crumb-sandwich-ship-3

Prosciutto & Pear has caramelized pear, prosciutto, onion jam, arugula, triple cream blue brie with a fig and walnut bread. Reminds me of another restaurant that has a similar sandwich. This is still a good sandwich, but the onion jam threw me off a little bit.

crumb-sandwich-ship-4

Chicken & Bacon has roasted chicken, avocado, double smoked bacon, butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onion jam, five spice aioli on the milk & honey bun. It was like a super good BLT, but with chicken and all the good stuff.

We also tried the Beef Brisket sandwich, but the Szechuan braised brisket tasted so strong of the Szechuan peppercorns, I really didn’t like it.

Overall, it’s a nice option for lunch in the Main/Terminal area as there really isn’t too many lunch options around. Majority of the sandwiches are good, but prices are a tad high. Sandwiches are around $12, but there isn’t any seating here.

earl-of-sandwich-disney-1

After visiting the Earl of Sandwich in Las Vegas, I had to check out the Earl of Sandwich in Disney Springs. Since we were on the Disney Dining Plan, we used our quick service meal here so we could get a drink, a side and a sandwich.

Earl of Sandwich is best know to their delicious sandwiches.

Interior

There’s so much to choose from, but the post popular sandwiches are The Full Montagu and The Original 1762.

earl-of-sandwich-disney-3

There are lots of seats inside, but it can get very busy during peak times. I found that most people eat quickly, so a table will open up.

earl-of-sandwich-disney-5

Food

earl-of-sandwich-disney-6

I got water and M got Coke as our drinks. For our sides we got coleslaw and potato salad. The sides were pretty standard and not that interesting.

All the sandwiches come wrapped up and has a sticker on it so you know which sandwich is which.

earl-of-sandwich-disney-8

The Full Montagu has roasted beef, turkey, swiss, cheddar, lettuce, roma tomato and mustard sauce.  M thought this was ok, but when you compare it to their Vegas counterpart, the meat isn’t as succulent or juicy.

earl-of-sandwich-disney-9

The Original 1762 has roasted beef, cheddar and horseradish sauce. This was better than the Full Montagu as it was just meat and cheese. I had a similar thought to M and I wished there was more roasted beef like in Vegas.

smokehouse-sandwich-co-3

Smokehouse Sandwich Co has their newest location inside Cathedral Place in Downtown close to Burrard Station. I purchased the SocialShopper deal – 2 sandwiches and 2 sides/drinks for $12. A super good deal, but I didn’t realize the Downtown location has very limited hours. I was planning to visit after work, but they close at 3pm on weekdays and are closed on weekends. I ended up coming here with a few friends during lunch to check it out. If you wander around the first floor of Cathedral Place, you’ll be able to find it. It’s close to Bill Reid Gallery.

They have their first location in Richmond since 2014 and they serve original and fresh smoked meat sandwiches made from locally sourced ingredients. Their Richmond location is open till 8pm Monday – Saturday. If you don’t work in downtown, I would recommend you get the Richmond SocialShopper deal.

Seating

smokehouse-sandwich-co-4

There are lots of seats but it reminds me of a food court. We came here around 11:45am and it wasn’t busy at all. By the time it was 12:30pm, it picked up as the office workers in the area headed here for lunch.

Menu

smokehouse-sandwich-co-1

On the menu, you will see sandwiches, sides, salads and drinks available. The ‘I’ indicates 1 portion of meat and ‘II’ indicates 2 portions of meat. All items are at a reasonable price for the downtown area.

With all the sandwiches, you can mix and match the meats. Also, you can choose between their 3 bun options:

  • regular white
  • high fibre
  • charcoal

Sandwiches

smokehouse-sandwich-co-9

Billie on the Charcoal Bun has salt cured pork belly, aioli sauce, salsa and lettuce. We got the regular portion of meat in the bun. How can you not go for the charcoal bun? It looks super cool. I enjoyed this sandwich and the pork belly had a good depth of flavour.

smokehouse-sandwich-co-12

Sarah on high fibre bun has pulled tamarind Chicken with aioli, sesame ginger oil and asian slaw. I enjoyed the asian slaw with the sesame ginger oil. Definitely went well with the chicken.

smokehouse-sandwich-co-11

Samson on a white bun has coffee-crusted strawberry-glazed beef brisket with aioli, red bell peppers and lettuce. Of all the sandwiches, we liked the flavour of the beef brisket the most.

smokehouse-sandwich-co-5

Wilbur on white bun has cumin-spiced pulled pork with aioli and coleslaw. Of the 4 sandwiches we had, we didn’t really like the wilbur.

Sides

smokehouse-sandwich-co-6

Mushroom Soup was their soup of the day when we were here. It was a pretty straight forward mushroom soup with a good amount of mushroom inside.

smokehouse-sandwich-co-7

Crisps are yellow potatoes fried in olive oil. Really crispy and not overly salted. I liked it.

smokehouse-sandwich-co-8

Asian slaw has shredded daikon radish and carrots pickled in rice vinegar and topped with mayo and crisps. I was surprised how much I liked it.

Drinks

smokehouse-sandwich-co-13

On their menu, they have a few different beverages that are unique to Smokehouse Sandwich co – Honey Ginger Lemon, Strawberry Mint and Kombucha.

smokehouse-sandwich-co-14

Strawberry and Mint can be made cold, hot or fizzy. At first it reminded me of liquified jam, but maybe it would have been better if it was fizzy.

Honey Ginger Lemon packed a punch and if you love ginger, you will enjoy it. I didn’t take a liking to it but a few of my friends really liked it and would return for it.

smokehouse-sandwich-co-2

Overall, the food was good for a quick lunch in Downtown Vancouver. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here, but if you work in the area, it’s a good option for a fast lunch. Of course there are a lot of other sandwich places in the area, so it will be tough competition.

Disclaimer: I was provided a complimentary SocialShopper voucher for Smokehouse Sandwich Co for this review and I also purchased an additional one so I could try more sandwiches. All thoughts are my own.

Making a quick stop in Downtown Toronto during our long layover, we got off Union Station from the UP Express Train and then walked over to St. Lawrence Market.

Carousel Bakery is known as the home of the award-winning “World Famous Peameal Bacon Sandwich. Last time in Toronto, I wasn’t able to get this. They have been at the market for over 30 years and line ups can always be seen on weekends and the weekday lunch rush.

Slices of grilled peameal bacon slices are put inside a soft country bun. It was so good! The fatty pieces of bacon just melted in our mouth.

They also have an amazing selection of over 300 types of international breads, rolls, bagels (Montreal style), baguettes and pastries.

If you have a chance to stop by St Lawrence Market in Toronto, definitely give Carouse Bakery a try for their Peameal Bacon. Make sure you bring cash too since they are cash only.

Wildside Grill in Tofino gets their fish straight from the boat. Commercial fisherman Jeff Mikus and chef Jesse Blake are the minds behind Wildside Grill. Like many of the restaurants in Tofino, they source their ingredients locally, so you get high quality west coast cuisine.

The menu is quite large, so it was very hard to figure out what to order. I wanted it all. hahaha.

Breakfast Taco has 2 fried eggs, lettuce, avotillo, chipotle mayo, jack cheese in corn tortillas and topped with crude and lime. So good! Who would have thought these would go together. If you need some hangover food, this is it. The heaviness of the egg balances with the fresh avotillo.

Oyster Po Boy has panko fried oysters, lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, and a caesar dressing. it also comes with fries. Very fresh oysters and nice crunch in the panko crumbs. Fries were also very crisp.

Breakfast Ciabatta has 2 fried eggs, chorizo sausage, jack cheese patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, avotillo, smoked tomato relish on the toasted ciabatta bun. Another good breakfast item but it’s more cheesy and carb heavy.

Pulled Pork Poutine has smoked pork in BBQ sauce, cheese curds and gravy. Wow, this was so good. The pulled pork was tender and super flavourful.

Cod Club has panko crusted cod with lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, pink shrimp, sweet chili mayo and avotillo. The fries are served with it.

Smoked Salmon Chowder has local salmon smoked in house with mixed veggies and seafood in a creamy broth. It i topped with baby pink shrimp and dill. The chowder is a bit thin but it is very loaded with ingredients.

This is the large size and its pretty big. The half size is a lot better for an individual.

Overall, the food is very fresh and executed well. I’m glad we made a stop here to indulge on their comfort westcoast dishes. Don’t forget to save your receipt, so you can head over to Chocolate Tofino for 10% off gelato.

All the seating is outdoors on picnic benches, so don’t forget to bring a jacket.
