It’s go great to see Burger King finally having a plant-based option on the menu. The Impossible Whopper is made with a flame-grilled patty topped with freshly sliced tomatoes and onions, crisp lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, ketchup, and crunchy pickles on a toasted sesame seed bun. All plants and nothing extra.

We are huge fans of Burger King and the Whoppers, so we had to see if the collaboration between Burger King and Impossible Foods would be a match made in heaven.

The Impossible Whopper Taste Test

After the first few bites, we really couldn’t tell the difference at all. The texture of the Impossible patty had the right texture and the aroma of the char broiled grill. It’s got all the right textures!

It’s available now, so definitely check it out if you want a plant-based alternative at Burger King. We were impressed and would get it again. Great for flexitarians, vegetarians who whoever is curious.

A&W Canada always comes out with new burgers for a limited time only. I saw an ad for their new Truffle Mozzarella Burgers and I had to give it a try.

They’ve never offered this flavour before, but how can you go wrong with truffle and mozzarella? This is available across Canada except for Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

What’s inside?

The Truffle Mozzarella Burgers has a grass-fed beef patty, topped with real mozzarella cheese, grilled onions, fresh lettuce and tomato, and truffle aioli.

What variations does it come in?

They offer the burgers as a buddy burger, mama burger, or Uncle Burger. The size of the patty differs.

Taste Test

We ordered all three sizes as I wanted the Truffle Mozzarella Mama Burger and the hubby was hungry so he got the Truffle Mozzarella Uncle Burger and the Truffle Mozzarella Buddy Burger.

A&W does a great job with the addition of their real mozzarella cheese and fresh veggies in their burgers. What not a lot of people talk about is their amazing sauces. In the past, they get the sauces spot on. The Truffle aioli is very nice and not over powering at all. It compliments the burger nicely.

They did a great job and we love it.

Pro-Tip

If you love their truffle aioli sauce, you can add it on the side to your fries or onion rings for a small add-on.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a fan of A&W already, they do a great job with the quality of their burgers. You’ll definitely love the Truffle Mozzarella Burgers like we do.

It’s only available for a limited time, so grab it for take out soon.

Chicken World just opened their newest location in Downtown Vancouver near English Bay. Their first two locations are in Surrey and now, they have expanded. You don’t have to travel to Surrey to get a taste of Chicken World.

We were invited to give it a try to see how it compares to other fried chicken shops in town.

Menu

Gabbar Chicken Burger

This beast of a burger has two pieces of chicken, lettuce, and sauce. You get to choose between mild or spicy. We went with mild to get a good taste of the chicken. The chicken was fried nicely and remained juicy. It’s a pretty solid chicken burger and we would highly recommend it.

Bewafa Beef Burger

Another double beef patty burger and it comes with melted cheese, lettuce, mayo and tomato. You can choose between mild and spicy, but it’s recommended to get mild. It was decent but their chicken burgers are superior.

Fried Chicken

The fried chicken is nicely battered and fried to a crispy perfection. The inside is very juicy.

Peri Peri Oven Roasted Chicken

This has a nice kick of spice to it and it is a touch more dry than the fried chicken.

Chicken Poutine

The fries have a nice texture and flavour. The gravy consistency is thick and a touch on the salty side. The chicken bites have a nice kick of spice but all together its a bit salty for our personal preferences.

Arabian Rice

It’s a nice side to accompany the chicken if you want the meal to be more filling.

Chicken Wings in Honey Garlic

The wings have a nice batter and fried well. The sauce is very thick and sticky so it coats all over the chicken. There was a touch too much sauce. These wings go well with rice.

Mango Ice Cream Sheikhs

It’s a pretty sweet ending to the meal. As there is a caramel drizzle on the sides of the cup, it is sweeter than we would like.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the chicken is fried well and has a great batter. The flow of traffic at this new location is quite steady so the food stays fresh. This is major comfort food and it’s a great addition to the neighbourhood. Great for fried chicken.

White Spot and Triple O’s have become the first restaurant chains in Canada to launch the Impossible Burger. As most restaurants and fast food chains offer up Beyond Meat. Last year, White Spot launched their Avocado Beyond Burger for a limited time. They no longer have this burger on the menu.

We haven’t had the Impossible burger patty before, so we were really really keen to see how the taste compares.

The Avocado Impossible Burger

The Avocado Impossible Burger is their signature item on the menu and it has fresh avocado, pickled onions, crisp lettuce, vine-ripened tomatoes, jalapeño ranch. It is served with a choice of Caesar salad, The Spot’s Salad, or creamy coleslaw and ‘endless’ Kennebec fries.

You can sub the Impossible patty to any burger on the menu.

My husband got the Avocado Impossible Burger and started making his own substitutions. He added bacon strips and cheddar cheese.

Monty Mushroom Bigger Burger with Impossible Burger Patty

This has a Impossible burger patty with Jack cheese, roasted mushrooms, lettuce, tomato and their signature Triple “O” sauce. It definitely wasn’t ‘bigger’ and very minimal mushrooms. Not sure if it was the location that we got it from, but if you want more mushrooms, you can always add more for a small fee.

Impossible Burger Patty Taste Test

The Impossible Burger Patty is very well done and we wouldn’t have noticed it was plant based. It has the right amount of spices, good texture, and look. With the addition of the tomato, it looks like it ‘bleeds’.

Overall, we were impressed with the Impossible Burger patty as it wasn’t dry. If you’re looking for a plant-based alternative on the White Spot menu, definitely consider it. We really enjoyed it and didn’t miss the beef patty.

The Impossible Burger is made from proteins, flavors, fats, and binders.

  • Protein from soy and potatoes
  • Flavor from heme (the molecule that makes meat taste, well, meaty)
  • Fat from coconut and sunflower oils make it sizzle on the griddle
  • Binders, methylcellulose and food starch, hold it together so you can make anything you want — meatballs, kebabs, patties, and more.

You can read more about the Impossible burger on their website.

Glowbal has brought back their limited time Burger Mania menu from March 16 – 27, 2020. This menu is available Monday to Friday from 11am to 6pm. Great for those who are working downtown and want a very filling lunch.

There are 5 different burgers which come with their own unique side dish. The prices do vary depending on the burger, but it’s very resonable.

Menu

BBQ Beef Brisket Melt

This beast of a burger has Montréal-styled smoked brisket, peppered bbq glaze, Swiss cheese, dilly kraut with bacon, and all in a toasted pretzel bun.
It is served with deep fried dill pickles. A good pairing as you can’t go wrong with deep fried pickles.

The burger is pretty hefty and the brisket is really packed in there.

Crispy Fried Chicken Burger

This Crispy Fried Chicken Burger has gooey aged cheddar cheese house famous hot sauce, and pickled cabbage slaw in a ciabatta bun. It is served with housemade bbq kettle chips. The BBQ Kettle chips were solid. The crispy fried chicken was big and crispy but can go limp quickly because of the moist ingredients in the burger.

We were actually surprise their hot sauce really packs a punch.

Surf n’ Turf Burger

This burger has double house ground chuck patties, buttery lobster & tarragon shaved fennel, and bearnaise sauce in a brioche bun. It is served with cheesy fried gnocchi bites.

The burger definitely needed more lobster and the pieces were cut up in small. The gnocchi bits were very gooey and best eaten when hot.

The Spicy Mexican

This massive burger has double house ground chuck patties, habanero & lime guacamole pico de gallo, and cilantro queso fresco in a brioche bun. It is served with waffle fries supreme.

The burger is very stacked with the double patties. It can be a bit messy to eat, but I like the fresh vibrant flavours from the lime.

Veggie Parmesana

There is a vegetarian option on the menu and it has a True veggie patty, crispy eggplant, parmesan, provolone cheese, tomato fondue, basil aioli, and rocket greens on a multigrain ciabbata bun. It is served with fried parsnip chips.

We all thought this wouldn’t be as good at the others but it’s solid. Very big burger.

Final Thoughts

The burgers and size are huge so you really get full if you can finish both the burger and side. There are a nice variety of burgers to celebrate Burger Mania. BBQ Beef Brisket Melt and Veggie Parmesana were my top choices. They paired the burger and sides nicely, but you can’t mix and match.

Asylum is the lounge within Hard Rock Casino serving comfort food and drinks. It is located inside of the casino at the rear if you’re coming in from the main entrance. They will also check your ID, so make sure you don’t forget it.

They just introduced their ‘Battle of the Burgers‘, which 6 specialty burgers are created by Hard Rock Casino Vancouver staff and customers get to crown a winner to be added to the permanent menu.

We were invited to give all six burgers a taste test to see which ones we enjoyed.

Battle of the Burger Details

Each burger is $15 and comes with fries or a side of Hard Rock Salad.

Every purchase of a burger will earn you one ballot into the grand finale draw to win Free Burgers for a Year. The burger with most purchases by May 31st, 2019 will be crowned the winner and take its place permanently on the Asylum menu.

Viva Las Vegas Burger

This burger is created by Chef Fernanda using a beef burger with Chimichurri Mayo, onion salsa, Italian Sausage, pineapple bacon jam, kale, tomato, and mozzarella on an onion bun.

We enjoyed the beef burger with the Italian Sausage as it worked really well together to bring in more flavour.

We Jammin’ Spam Burger

Created by Chef Krisken, this has grilled spam, grilled pineapple, jalapeño jam, Japanese mayo, yaki nori, cheddar cheese on an onion bun.

A Hawaiian twist to the classic burger and we were instantly drawn to this burger for the spam. The grilled pineapple was pretty thick so it over powered the taste of the spam. This burger needed some more texture. Perhaps some fried nori crisps would have been nice.

Guinness in the Jar

Created by Chef Mark, this has white cheddar, Guinness braised onion, butter lettuce, tomato, and Guinness aioli on a brioche bun.

This burger was decent. The Guinness braised onion added a nice savoury element to the burger but was missing something as well.

Black & Blue Beatles

This burger is created by Chef Kulwinder using blue cheese dressing, blue cheese crumble, cracked black pepper, lettuce, tomato, and red onion on a brioche bun.

This isn’t for everyone as you gotta love blue cheese to enjoy this. I was the only one at the table that enjoyed it. I don’t have blue cheese that often but when I do, I really enjoy it.

Burger of the Stars

This has olive tapenade mayo with smoked paprika, roasted red pepper, goat cheese, lettuce, tomato, and red onion on a brioche bun. This was created by Chef Antonio.

This was ok, very middle of the road and nothing too stood out to us.

Burger for the Weekend

This burger was created by Johnny D using grilled chicken with sweet chili sauce, mayo, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion, avocado, cheddar on a brioche bun.

In terms of taste, this was a solid burger. The flavours went together, had good texture and was a favourite among the table.

Final Thoughts

Overall, interesting concepts created for the Battle of the Burgers at Asylum. If you’re at Hard Rock Casino Vancouver, definitely check it out. We have our favourites but which one will you choose? This goes on until May 31st, 2019.

White Spot is adding Beyond Burger patties to their burger and salad menu, which is a 100% plant-based burger patty that is very great alternative to meat patties. After a few other Fast Food chains adopted the Beyond Burger last year, there was so much buzz surrounding it and it’s so good that more restaurants are taking it on.

The New Signature Avocado Beyond Burger and Southwest Power Bowl will be available starting Monday, April 15, 2019 at all full-service White Spot restaurants in BC and Alberta.

We were giving a sneak peek to see how they will taste.

Avocado Beyond Burger

This beast of a burger has fresh avocado, pickled onions, roasted corn, crisp lettuce, vine-ripened tomatoes, jalapeño ranch and edamame hummus, and is served with a choice of Caesar salad, The Spot’s salad, or creamy coleslaw and ‘endless’ signature Kennebec fries. As with all White Spot burgers, guests can also substitute fries for Zoo Sticks, Poutine, Onion Rings or Sweet Potato Fries for an additional charge.

This burger is HUGE and is hard to get your mouth around it. A pretty solid burger but it can get a bit soggy with all those sauces in it. Definitely grab a few napkins and it’s saucy. Nonetheless, it was a delicious burger and you won’t notice it’s a veggie patty. Great way to trick people into eating vegetarian. We loved pairing it with a milkshake and Zoo Sticks.

Southwest Power Bowl

Looking for something with the Beyond Burger Patty but not in a burger format? The new Southwest Power Bowl has fresh avocado, cherry tomatoes, radish, roasted corn and cabbage, served with quinoa and jasmine rice with greens, jalapeño ranch and edamame hummus.

Options at Triple O’s

Beginning Monday, May 6, the Beyond Burger patty will also be available at White Spot’s quick-service brand Triple O’s in a new Beyond Original signature burger as well as a limited-edition Mushroom Avocado Beyond Burger.

Chick-fil-A has tons of controversy surrounding this American fast food chain. The companies values are influenced by religious values of it’s founder and do close on Sundays. With over 2,200 locations in the US and Canada, they are still expanding and there’s tons of controversy that has popped up. I respect everyone’s differentiating options and values, but I just like to each chicken.

Menu

Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich

This classic sandwich has a boneless seasoned breast of chicken that is hand-breaded and cooked in peanut oil, then served in a buttered bun with 2 dill pickles. Good and simple.

Chick-fil-A Deluxe Sandwich

If you get your sandwich a deluxe, they add green leaf lettuce, tomato and American Cheese. I prefer it with the extra veggies for a pop of colour and some vegetables.

Spicy Chicken Sandwich

They also have a spicy chicken sandwich with added blend of peppers to the hand-breaded mixture. I was surprised it packed a punch. If you like spicy, you’ll really enjoy this.

Waffle Potato Fries

How can you not love these? They are so fun to eat. When it’s fresh, its crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. If you wait too long, they go soggy.

Chick-n-Strips

The chicken strips are from the breast meat, marinated, seasoned, hand-breaded and then pressure cooked in peanut oil. When it comes out, its ok. Not that crispy but it is meaty and tender. Don’t forget the dipping sauces because there are so many kinds to choose from.

Chick-fil-A Nuggets

These are essentially like the chicken strips but in smaller bite-size pieces.

Sauces

There are 7 sauces to choose from and it’s like an adventure wanting to try them all in one visit.

  • Chick-fil-A Sauce
  • Polynesian Sauce
  • Honey Mustard Sauce
  • Garlic and Herb Ranch Sauce
  • Zesty Buffalo Sauce
  • BBQ Sauce
  • Sweet and Spicy Sriracha Sauce

Of all of them, my husband and I really like the original Chick-fil-A sauce. He also liked the sweet Polynesian sauce and I liked the zesty buffalo sauce for an extra kick of heat.

Cookies and Cream Milkshake

This has cookies and cream hand spun the old fashioned way with ice cream. Then it is topped with whipped cream and a cherry. At 610 calories, milkshakes really pack a punch and definitely not for those on a diet.

Final Thoughts

That’s all the items my husband and I shared during one trip to Chick-fil-A. We made a good dent in the menu and were bursting from the seams. They make a solid chicken sandwich and you must get it with the waffle fries.

Gott’s Roadside is a popular spot for burgers, fries, and drinks. Their Californian-inspired dishes utilize locally sourced ingredients and elevates the traditional American Roadside experience. When we were visiting the area, we decided to make a stop here since a lot of our family members never had Gott’s before, so we had to go for a quick bite.

Interior

There are lots of seats inside and a few spots outside as well. Since it was the Summer, it was nice just sitting outside enjoying the weather.

Menu

Waiting for your order

Once you input and pay for your order, you get this electronic device to let you know when your order is ready. It will flash and buzz when it’s your turn. A great idea so you can find a seat and not just be waiting around.

Black and White Milk Shake

Their milk shakes are hand spun with organic ice cream and milk. We went with the black and white which is vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. A classic and looks good too.

California Burger

A classic! It has fried egg, swiss cheese, Zoe’s bacon, arugula, balsamic onions and mayo on a toasted egg bun. How can you say no to a burger with a delicious egg. It was cooked medium well, so it is a little pink inside and it’s delicious.

Western Bacon Blue Ring

This has beer-battered onion ring, Point Reyes crumbled blue cheese, bacon, pickles, red onion & BBQ sauce on a toasted egg bun. A big burger with good textures and complimentary flavours. The blue cheese was nice and pungent. It went well with the BBQ sauce.

Ahi Burger

This burger uses sushi grade Ahi tuna seared rare with ginger wasabi mayo, Asian slaw & cilantro on a toasted egg bun. A lighter version of the other burgers on the menu but it is a nice change. The ahi was beautifully cooked too.

Baja Fish Tacos

There are 2 tacos in each order. It has fresh Mahi Mahi, beer-battered & fried crisp, served in soft, organic corn tortillas with Mexican slaw, cilantro, salsa verde, lime & spicy mayo.

It was ok, but the burgers are where it’s at here.

Garlic Fries

To compliment the burgers, we got garlic fries, which are tossed in garlic butter and parsley. A good combination to make it a fitting meal.

Final Thoughts

Overall, if you’re craving a solid burger, Gott’s Roadside has got your back. It’s not the best burger in Northern California, but it’s solid.

The Shop is an eatery and butcher shop under one roof at Two Rivers Meats in North Vancouver. We were invited to try their winter menu, which features their specialty meats and seasonal produce available from local suppliers.

Interior

The space is bright and welcoming. The left half is an eatery with an open kitchen and family style seating.

The other half is a butcher shop with an array of ethically and sustainably raised meats. Two Rivers Meats proudly offer meat products from farms all over BC & Alberta who “raise their animals in open spaces without the use of antibiotics and growth hormones.”

Help yourself to popcorn while you wait for your order!

Menu

Their winter menu is a good mix of shareables, food from the grill and rotisserie, as well as options for the kids.

After placing your order, grab a popcorn and your bone marrow table number.

We decided to sit right by the bar facing the grill so we can feel the warmth of the fire (it was cold and raining outside). Meats were cooked over an open fire using alder and birch wood.

We ordered the burger with tallow fries, sausage platter, the beet slaw, and the ramen.

65 Day Dry Aged Beef Burger

Their signature item is the 65-day dry aged beef burger, which is served with aged cheddar, charred tomato, zucchini pickles, iceberg lettuce, and white BBQ sauce in a brioche bun. We opted to add bacon.

This burger is delicious! There’s a depth of flavour in dry aged beef that is hard to describe but is easy to distinguish by taste. The bacon is good, but this burger didn’t need it. It’s great as-is.

As a side, The Shop offers Tallow Fries and I recommend that you get them each and every time you visit. (Fun fact: McDonald’s Fries were originally fried in tallow–it’s now made in vegetable oil…and additives to mimic the taste of beef tallow.)

Sausage Platter

The sausage platter is good for sharing and the selection rotates every other day based on the season and availability. It’s served with pickled onions, zucchini pickles and mustard. The pickles are fresh and are made in-house.

When we visited, the three sausages featured were Buffalo Chicken, Toulouse and Chaurice. This is a great option if you’d like to try their sausages or to share with the table.

Two Rivers Ramen Bowl

The Two Rivers Ramen is miso bone broth, soft poached egg, bean sprouts, noodles, charred garlic chili oil, spiced nori, crispy pork and green onions.

Ramen in a butcher shop?! I was initially suspicious, until I realized they have a ready supply of bone, marrow and fat to make an amazing soup broth.

The miso bone broth in this ramen is rich, buttery and tastes amazing. The noodles has a good bite and the garlic chili oil topped egg was a nice touch. It was perfect on a rainy day. My only hesitation about this dish is the five-spice crispy pork which overpowered the taste and did not complement the soup. Next time I visit, I’ll ask if there’s another meat option available or simply ask for the crispy pork on the side.

Final Thoughts

Two Rivers Meats have supplied Vancouver retailers and higher end restaurants for over a decade. Their meat is from BC and Alberta farmers who make sure their animals are raised ethically and sustainably. Best of all, they’re making it available for everyone to easily purchase and taste these products at The Shop.

Their menu is solid and the food tastes great. They’re a great option if you’re considering eating less, but better sourced meats. It would be an afternoon well-spent to drive up to North Vancouver, try their burger and fries, then purchase a selection of their sausages for the week ahead. My only regret is that I forgot about the cookie, so I’ll need to come back and try it.

For a limited time only, A&W Canada is releasing their Mushroom mozzarella cheese and egger available all day as well as the mushroom mozzarella burger. It’s just the addition of the sauteed crimini mushrooms and slice of real mozzarella cheese, but who doesn’t love cheese and mushrooms together?

For mine, I also added a sausage patty to it too. The breakfast sandwich tasted good and not overly greasy or salty, which is a nice change. A solid item for breakfast if you’re hungry. It’s good that they use quality ingredients and is continually improving.

A&W has released similar versions in the past – Mushroom Mozza Burger. They have similar burgers back on the menu for a limited time too. This is similar to the breakfast sandwich but in a burger format with grilled onions.

Bells and Whistles on Fraser near Kingsway opens up today and we were given a quick preview of their space and menu. I’ve passed by a few times and I was eagerly awaiting their opening since I love beer and food. The neighbourhood is definitely changing and its great to see new options. They have 18 craft beers on tap – local and international, 5 types of soft serve ice cream, and 6 types of burgers in addition to other items.

Interior

I love the interior design and they got it spot on to really cater to their clientele. There are lots of tables, so they can easily seat small to large groups.

There are longer picnic style tables and with the large screen, you can watch different sports games.

They have 3 arcade games by the washroom – skee ball and basketball. 2 of the best retro games.

Menu

Beer and Cocktails
Four Winds x Bells and Whistles

Fours Winds collaborated with Bells and Whistles to create this hoppy ale which is dry-hopped with Denali & Galaxy. A good beer to try that is exclusive to this location.

Southern Belle

This cocktail ha Southern Comfort, iced tea, lemon and club soda. The drink is shaken and the strained over fresh ice. It was a very well balanced drink and since I could drink a ton of iced tea, it was a great alcoholic version.

Purple Haze

This cocktail is mad with Absolut vodka, blueberry juice, Averna, lime and served frozen with an umbrella.

Snacks and Starters

Pimento Cheese Dip

The pimento cheese dip is served with thin pretzel chips, grainy mustard and tiny pickles. Pimento cheese us very comforting but the pretzel chips were pretty fragile when I spread the dip on top. The consistency of the dip is smooth compared to how it is normally made at home, its chunky. A different twist that they put on it.

Fries

Fries are served with an herb aioli. We thought it was a bit unnecessary that they seasoned the fries in addition to having the aioli sauce as it provided enough added flavour.

KFC

This isn’t your normal Kentucky Fried Chicken, it is Korean Fried Cauliflower served with pickled cucumber, green onion and cilantro. If you aren’t a cauliflower fan, you can have it with chicken instead.

Onion Rings

These onion rings are pretty good and is served with tangy honey mustard. Crispy on the outside and the onion is cooked well.

Ahi Tuna Poke

Their ahi tuna poke has green onions, cilantro, cucumber, black and white sesame seeds, and avocado. You get a good portion of tortilla chip too. It’s decent and its a lighter option compared to the other items on the menu. I can never say no to ahi tuna.

Burgers

The Classic

The classic burger has aged cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and their secret sauce. It is served with fries or you can substitute with onion rings, garlic fries, or caesar salad for an extra charge. Their patty is hand-formed and made with a mixture of short rib, brisket, and chuck. They also have gluten-free buns too.

Fat Stevens Sandwich

You will find inside this bun beer-brined chicken, gravy, mayo and crispy fried onions. Really comforting and reminded me of Thanksgiving but with chicken.

The All Day Breakfast

This beast of a burger has maple sausage pork patty, American cheese hash browns, secret sauce and a fried egg. Super comforting and rich. You will really want a beer to go with this.

Soft Serve

Troy Tulo-Whiskey

This has original custard, whiskey caramel, roasted pecans, peach jam, and ice tea crystals. I found the soft serve very soft that it looked melted. Maybe they were having an off night with their machine.

Aaron Fudge

This has their twist soft serve, oreo chunks, strawberry sauce, fudge sauce, rainbow sparkles and marshmallows.

Coco Crisp

There is chocolate sauce, Skor bar crumble, white chocolate and pretzels sprinkled on top. Of the 3 soft serves, I liked this one compared to the other 2.

Twin Sails Stout Float

You have their original soft serve custard with a pour of their Twin Sails stout or porter depending on what that have on tap. If you are a beer lover, you’ll enjoy this combination.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m happy that Bells and Whistles has joined the Fraserhood neighbourhood  and this type of venue was needed to have a great time with friends over beer, cocktails, and wine paired with comforting food. Plus, how can you say no to skee ball and basketball.

Johnny Rockets has finally opened their first location in Downtown Vancouver. They are expanding fast and their next location is on Oak Street in Vancouver. Since 1986, Johnny Rockets has been a favourite place for all-American burgers, fries and shakes in the States. When we heard they had opened, my foodie friends and I made a visit for dinner.

Interior

The interior has an interesting look that is different from some other locations in the states. They call this ‘Diner 2.0’ for this modern contemporary diner look.

The group of us didn’t know how we felt about the look as it seemed a bit cold compared to the cute retro diner at the older location in the states.

On the bright side, there are plugs and USB outlets at each table so you can charge your phones, laptops or whatever else. On the table, you’ll find difference sauces.

The Rocket

The classic cheese burger has cheddar cheese, leaf lettuce, tomato, white onion and special sauce. They source the meat from Canada for their patties, but I felt the burger was ok. Solid, but nothing special. I ordered the combo, but one thing I didn’t like was the lack of customization, so I couldn’t swap my fries for onion rings even if I wanted to pay more. The fries were mediocre. Nothing wrong with them, but I personally like my fries with a crisp exterior.

Smoke House

This has smoked bacon, crispy onion rings, cheddar cheese, and their Smoke House BBQ sauce.

Bacon Cheddar

It has thick-cut smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, leaf lettuce, tomato, sliced onion and special sauce. The bacon was on point, a very very crisp.

Onion Rings

When you order onion rings, it comes on a tray by itself. My friend ordered a burger with it but they didn’t put it together even though they both on one tray.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the food was ok and didn’t stand out compared to the other options in Downtown Vancouver. If you are a fan of Johnny Rockets, you may like what they’re cooking up.
