Nespresso has launched 2 new capsules from their Ispirazione Italiana collection – Ispirazione Venezia and Ispirazione Napoli. These will be joining Ristretto Italiano, Firense, Roma, Genova, and Palermo capsules.

These are only for the original machines and not the Vertuo.

We were invited to a media night to try these two capsules in an assortment of beverages.

Ispirazione Napoli

This is one of the most intense capsules with an intensity of 13. This is a dark roast and it is creamy. It makes an excellent espresso and it has low acidity. It’s not for everyone but I was personally drawn to this as I enjoy dark roasts with low acidity.

You can also spice things up by creating a Siciliano Cocktail using:

  • 2oz Sweet Italian Vermouth
  • 1.5oz of Averna amaro
  • 1.5oz of Cooled Nespresso Ispirazione Napoli
  • Sparking Water
  • Orang swath

You pour all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice to chill completely. Then you stain into a chilled glass and garnish with an orange swath.

Ispirazione Venezia

This comes at an intensity of 8 and is a middle dark roast. It is very well balanced with a good mouthfeel. Also excellent if you enjoy darker roasts. I had this in an affogato as well as an espresso and it was really easy to drink. Don’t forget to ad some cherries or shaved chocolate on top to sweeten the deal.

Final Thoughts

My favourite way to enjoy both is to have it as a shot of espresso and then adding some frothed milk to it was a dash of sugar. Simple and delicious.

You can now get the Ispirazione Venezia and Ispirazione Napoli capsules in-stores or online.

Instead of popping an Eggo into the toaster in the morning, you can now pour it into your bowl in the morning and devour it before you head out the door. This was the only flavour available in stores, but it’s a classic fllavour combination of waffles and maple syrup.

Where and How Much Is It?

I got this at Superstore for $2.97 a box, but you can probably find this at major grocery stores across Canada.

What’s Inside the Box?

Inside the box is 1 x 320g of Eggo Cereal with Maple Syrup Flavour.

Taste Test

The shape is like a honeycomb but more thick. When you open the bag, the maple syrup smell just tastes over. It’s why crunchy and doesn’t get soggy early because of its thick size.

It was all maple syrup taste with the corn taste in the base of the cereal. I am personally not a fan of maple syrup because I find it can be sweet but it does go great with butter on pancakes in moderation.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, I wasn’t a fan and wouldn’t get it again. I just don’t like the strong maple syrup aroma. If you love maple syrup, you might want to consider this.

I love trying new Cereals when they are available in Canada. One cereal that did catch my eye is Fraken Berry when I saw it in January in the grocery store. Franken Berry is created by General Mills North America and only available seasonally.

The three monster cereals are Count Chocula, Franken Berry, and Boo Berry. This trio really makes Halloween cereals a hit in October.

Where and How Much Is It?

I got this on sale at Buy Low Foods in Burnaby, BC for around $4. This must have been leftovers from Halloween.

What’s Inside the Box?

Inside the box is 1 x 270g pouch of Franken Berry cereal.

Taste Test

When you pour the Franken Berry into the bowl, the strawberry cereal looks more like Frankenstein got a Flaming Hot Cheetos makeover. It’s really bright and vibrant. There are also different marshmallows in the cereal too.

When we ate it with milk, it was very sweet and the strong artificial strawberry was all I could taste. It was really hard finishing the bowl.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, not a fan at all of Franken Berry. The strawberry is so artificial and sweet for my liking. Even looking at the cereal hurt my eyes. I wouldn’t get this again.

The Shredded Wheat Dark Chocolate Cereal looks really good on store shelves. It’s healthy yet indulgent at the same time. But not too indulgent because it’s dark chocolate. I was really drawn by the dark chocolate flavour.

I’ve had Shredded Wheat a long time ago and I just remember the bland taste and crisp texture.

Where and How Much?

I got this at Superstore for $2.97 a box, but you can probably find this at major grocery stores across Canada.

Whats in the box?

In the box is 1 x 480g of Shredded Wheat Dark Chocolate Cereal.

Taste Test

Each Shedded Wheat Dark Chocolate is quite hefty, so when I pour milk into it, none of the float like other cereals. Just sink to the bottom.

The Shredded Wheat gets soggy really quickly. Even with the dark chocolate, it taste really really bland like cardboard. There are small pieces of dark chocolate inside but really doesn’t add much to the cereal.

Once the shredded wheat gets soggy, you’ll be able to find the dark chocolate hiding inside.

Nonetheless, it’s not very sweet at all.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, I would not get this again. I really wanted a bit more chocolate from this version. It was just so hard to finish.

https://www.postconsumerbrands.ca/brand/shredded-wheat/

I absolutely love Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, so when I saw the Reese Puffs cereal by General Mills, I had to give it a try. How can the chocolate and peanut butter combination go wrong? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were my favourite Halloween candy. When kids would want to trade them away, I would take them all.

Where and how much?

I found this at Superstore for $2.97, but you can find this at most grocery stores across Canada. I find that prices do vary as well, but if you get it around the $3 mark, that’s pretty good.

What’s Inside?

Inside the box, you will find 1 x 326g pouch of Reese Puffs cereal.

Taste Test

When I opened the box, there was a nice peanut butter fragrance coming from the bag. As I poured the milk into the bowl, the puffs didn’t become soggy too fast.

There is a strong peanut taste with the subtle chocolate aroma. Each bite was crunchy but I find that it was quite sweet. The after taste was very sweet and made the back of my throat feel funny.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, fun concept for a cereal, but it was a bit too sweet for me. I wished there was more chocolate flavour to balance the stronger peanut butter taste.

This special edition Cheerios was released in a coconut flavour. I’ve noticed that they have released so many different flavours recently like peanut butter and blueberry. A lot of people messaged me to go try out the coconut Cheerios and report back. Of course, I was curious, so I grabbed a box.

Where and how much?

I got this at Superstore for $2.97 a box. You can also find this at most major grocery stores like Wal-Mart as well.

What’s Inside?

Inside, you will find 1 x 309g bag of Coconut Cheerios inside.

Taste Test

I opened the box and there wasn’t too much of an aroma until you really stick your head into the box.

When I added milk to the bowl with the coconut Cheerios, the coating of the coconut flavour is just on the exterior surface of the cheerio. The taste is like sweet artificial coconut. I really didn’t like it. It’s hard to really get the essence of coconut into cereal format and it didn’t work for me. I wouldn’t get it again. It wouldn’t even go well as a snack without milk.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, this gets a big nope from me. You can skip this unless you like sweet artificial coconut flavours.

I am a huge Nutter Butter fan and I’m glad the Nutter Butter Cereal is now in Canada. The Nutter Butter Cereal is created by Post Consumer Brands, which makes other notable cereal like Bran Flakes and Honey Comb.

Where to find them

We were able to find this at Superstore in Canada. This has been spotted at Wal-Mart as well. I’m sure this will slowly roll out to other major grocery stores in Canada too.

How much is it?

It was on sale around $3 Canadian for a 311g box of Nutter Butter Cereal at Superstore. You can also find this at Wal-Mart.

What’s inside the box?

Inside the box is a 1 x 311g pouch of Nutter Butter Cereal.

Taste Test

The Nutter Butter Cereal is shaped like little peanuts. It has a curvature to them but maybe thats because of how they were processed. When I opened the cereal, it smelled a bit funky like saw dust or glue. It really threw me off.

As I added milk and ate it up with the Nutter Butter Cereal, the classic Nutter Butter taste really shined through. It was pretty damn good. The peanut butter flavour is very dominant and not too sweet.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, it’s one of my favourite cereals now since I am a Nutter Butter fan way before the cereal launched. The only downside is the smell, but other than that, once you dig in, it’s so good.

Website:

Cheerios has come out with a new flavour in Canada – blueberry. It is made with real blueberry puree. No artificial colours or flavours. It’s been a while since I last ate Cheerios, so it’s a great time to start again with a few new flavours that they’ve launched.

Blueberry is a great flavour for breakfast as it does great with pancakes, smoothies and oatmeal. Makes sense that it might just work well with cereal.

Where to find them

I found this on sale at Buy-Low Foods in Burnaby, BC, but you can find them at most major grocery stores like Superstore.

How much is it?

I found them on sale for just under $3 at both Buy-Low Foods and Superstore.

What’s inside the box?

Inside the box is the 309g box of Blueberry Cheerios.

Taste Test

When I opened the box, the smell was sweet and reminded me of Kernels Popcorn. The sweet blueberry aroma lingered as I poured it into my bowl.

The Cheerios are round but dark purple from the blueberry puree.

As I ate this with milk, it really wasn’t overly sweet which was nice. As the Blueberry Cheerios soaks in the milk as I ate it, it turned the milk blue. I also tried eating this with real blueberries and it added a nice freshness to the morning meal.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, it’s an alright cereal. I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it. It has a hint of sweetness from the blueberry coating. I was glad I tried it, but I’m not compelled to finish a few more boxes of this flavour. If you love blueberries and Cheerios, then this might just be the cereal for you.

General Mills has come up with a special edition Cinnamon Toast Crunch with a chocolate twist. Chocolate Toast Crunch is in-stores now as a special edition flavour. Cinnamon and chocolate is a great combination.

Where to find them

I got this at Superstore, but it should be available at most major grocery stores in Canada.

How much are they?

It was on sale for around $3 at Superstore.

What’s inside

Inside the box, there are 1 x 352g packet of all the Chocolate Toast Crunch.

Taste Test

It has the same shape as regular Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but this married cinnamon and chocolate together. It has a good blend of chocolate and cinnamon. I really enjoyed it.

You can have it with milk or just enjoy it as a midnight snack. Can’t go wrong with either. Just don’t leave it in milk too long or else it will go soggy.

I would recommend this!

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, I enjoyed it. The second time I had it, I enjoyed it even more. It grew on me the more that I ate it. The harmony of the chocolate and cinnamon works very well together.

If you have it be itself, with milk or with yogurt, it is great. It is a tad sweet but not as much as other cereals in the market.

Kelloggs Canada is FINALLY bringing Cheez-Its to Canadians from coast-to-coast. I remember making trips to the States and then making sure I grab a few boxes of the precious Cheez-Its before coming back to Canada.

They use the same recipe that has made Cheez-It the #1 ranked brand in the cracker category in the USA.

What flavours are there?

Canadians can now experience Cheze-Its in four delicious flavours across two snacking formats- Cheez-It Crackers original, Cheez-It Crackers Hot & Spicy, Cheez-It Crunch Sharp White Cheddar, and Cheez-It Crunch Zesty Cheddar Ranch.

Where to find them

They should be available to most Major grocery stores across Canada. We found them at Superstore and Wal-Mart on the West Coast for sale for $1.97 each.

Cheez-It Crackers original

This is the classic version with the same delicious bold cheese flavour in every bite. It is square in shape with the classic hole through the centre.

Can’t go wrong with this and it’s still my favourite. You can eat it by itself or even pair it with a soup.

Cheez-It Crackers Hot & Spicy

There is also a Hot & Spicy version too. It isn’t spicy, but it has a strong jalapeno aroma. This would go very well with chili. This was my husband’s favourite flavour of the bunch.

Cheez-It Crunch Sharp White Cheddar

Cheez-It Crunch is new and it has a rippled, chip-like texture. I was surprised by the texture as it was very crunchy like music to my ears. It was more like a thin crispy saltine cracker but with the sharp cheesy flavour of white cheddar. I liked this flavour compared to the zesty ranch.

Cheez-It Crunch Zesty Cheddar Ranch

I thought this flavour was pretty salty compared to the sharp white cheddar. The ranch flavour is very prominent.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

It’s great it’s finally in Canada and in more than one flavour, which is great. I still love the classic Cheez-It as you really can’t go wrong with that. Cheez-It Crunch Sharp White Cheddar is my second favourite. For $1.97 CDN a box, it’s not bad at all.

Post Consumer Brands makes some pretty exciting cereals on the market like the trending Tim Hortons Timbits Cereal. Another cereal that has recently launched in Canada is the Chips Ahoy! Cereal. I remember eating the Chips Ahoy! cookies as a kid, so I was excited when I saw the Chips Ahoy! Cereal in stores.

Where to find them

We were able to find this at Wal-Mart in Canada. Looking through online chatter, it seems like it’s only been spotted at Wal-Mart. I’m sure in the near future, it will slowly roll out to other major grocery stores as well.

How much is it?

$3.97 Canadian for a 340g box of Chips Ahoy! Cereal at Wal-Mart.

What’s inside the box?

Inside the box is the 340g box of Chips Ahoy! Cereal.

Taste Test

When we opened up the box, there was a very strong sweet aroma coming from the cereal. It wasn’t like cookies, but more like brown sugar and butter. Each cookies is pretty cute and has its unique pattern of chocolate chips on top.

When biting into the Chips Ahoy! Cereal, it didn’t remind me of mini cookies. It was very dehydrated and crisp like any other cereal. I wasn’t to like the Chips Ahoy! Cereal, but it missed the mark. It was ok, but it didn’t make me want to go and buy another box.

The only way to get the chips ahoy! to be less sweet is by really dunking them in milk for a while and then the cookies soak up the milk to balance out the sweet flavour.

I haven’t had Cookie Crisp cereal before, so I don’t exactly know how it compares to that one.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, I wasn’t as impressed with Chips Ahoy! Cereal. It’s fun for kids to eat mini cookies in the cereal but it really lacked the feel of a cookie.

When I was a kid, my friend and I would bake mini cookies and turn it into cereal because Cookie Crisp didn’t exist in Canada back then. It took a long time to bake, but it was so worth it.

I wouldn’t buy this again

General Mills has partnered with The Hershey Co. to create the Hershey’s Kisses Cereal. This is now available in Canada along with the United States.

As a chocolate fan, I had to check this out.

Where to find them

We were able to find this at Wal-Mart in Canada. Looking through online chatter, it seems like it’s only been spotted at Wal-Mart and Superstore so far. I’m sure in the near future, it will slowly roll out to other major grocery stores as well.

How much is it?

$4 Canadian for a 309g box of Hershey’s Kisses Cereal at Wal-Mart. Some have noted it was on sale at Superstore.

What’s inside the box?

Inside the box is the 309g box of Hershey’s Kisses Cereal.

Taste Test

When you open the bag, there is a strong cocoa aroma. It isn’t too sweet, but more chocolate. Each piece is shaped like the iconic Hershey’s kisses, but others have noted that it looks like poop, a nipple, the game pieces from Sorry, or other body parts.

As i enjoyed the with milk, it really wasn’t too sweet which was nice. It had enough cocoa to turn the milk brown.

I would buy this again. It really was good.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

Overall, I didn’t expect much from first glance, but it was surprisingly good if you are a chocolate lover. You get a lot of cocoa flavour in this.

A friend also noted you can actually do quite a bit with this cereal like make Hershey’s Kisses Marshmallow bars. A fun treat with a strong chocolate flavour.

If you see this in stores, it’s definitely worth a try.

Tim Hortons finally announced they are launching Timbits Cereal nationwide, but still it’s hard to spot. We found the Birthday Cake Timbits cereal early on at Costco before they made their official announcement.

Where to find them

The Chocolate Glazed Timbits cereal was a bit harder for us to find, but the good people of Instagram pointed me in the right direction. Sobeys owned stores like Safeway and Fresh Co. were the next locations to have Tim Hortons Timbits Cereal in the Birthday Cake and Chocolate Glazed flavours. Plus, on sale for $2.99 instead of $5.49 per box.

We ended up going to Safeway in Burnaby but it wasn’t even located in the cereal aisle. It was closer to the milk aisle for some reason. Usually their limited edition items go there, but there’s no indication if Tim Hortons Timbits Cereal is only here for a limited time only.

What’s inside the box

Inside the box, there are 1 x 326g packets of all the little ‘Chocolate Glazed timbits’.

Taste Test

When you pour it out of the box, there is a strong sweet chocolate aroma. As we mixed it with milk, it tasted more like cocoa puffs with the finish of sweetness, which I assume is the ‘glaze’.

Similar to the Birthday Cake Timbits Cereal, it is sweet, but the Birthday Cake Timbits Cereal is more sweet. If you’re a Tim Hortons fan, this is worth a try, but I don’t think you’ll be switching your usual cereal over to this.

Once you’re done the cereal, you see the cereal turns a light brown from the chocolate.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

This is a fun item for Tim Hortons fans to see the iconic Timbits turned into cereal. Seriously, who wouldn’t want that? Canadians have been wanting to get their hands on this cereal and it’s slowly rolling out to grocery stores.

If you’re looking for fun ways to utilize the cereal, someone suggested making marshmallow square out of this, just like how you would make rice crispy squares. It would seem great to have Timbits cereal bars.

T-Fal is best known for their variety of thermo-spot cookware. I’ve used T-Fal for many years as the quality of the pan and the price are very affordable. When it goes on sale, it’s a pretty fantastic deal.

T-fal’s signature temperature indicator will turn solid red when it’s the perfect temperature for cooking. The pan is hot to cook anything without additional fat, non-stick, and really easy to clean.

I had my stove set on medium heat and let the pan do it’s thing. It’s very handy having the spot indicator as sometimes I’m not paying attention to how long the pan has been on the stove, or I get impatient and want to start cooking right away.

I use my pans the most, so having some good pans is important me. T-fal’s non-stick coating is safe as well. A lot of people have been afraid of these types of pans because the coating may cause harm when ingested.

When asked if the non-stick coating is safe, this was their response.

T-fal non-stick coating is a technical coating made from a polymer name polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).It is PTFE which gives the cookware the non-stick properties. Public health authorities in Europe and in the USA demonstrated that PTFE is an inert substance which does not chemically react with food, water or domestic cleaning products. It is totally harmless in case of ingestion. These Public health authorities confirmed the harmlessness of PTFE non-stick coatings in cookware. In fact, PTFE is so safe that it is frequently used in the medical profession to coat pacemakers and the tiny tubes made to replace arteries. It is also used for surgical procedures for the benefit of patients with severe kidney disease, and some joint prostheses are also partly coated with PTFE.

My favourite thing to make in the pan is marinated chicken as part of our dinner. Here is my go-to marinade recipe:

Foodology’s Marinated Chicken Thighs

Serving: 6

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Mirin
  • 1 Tablspoon Sesame Oil
  • 1/4 cup Rice Wine
  • 2 teaspoon Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Cayenne
  • Pinch of Salt and Pepper
  • 12 Boneless Chicken Thighs (skin or no skin is ok)

Instructions:

  1. Combine soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, rice wine, mustard, cayenne, salt and pepper in a ziplock bag.
  2. Add chicken thighs in to the mixture and let marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  3. Cook of medium heat of a frying pan until done.
  4. Serve with a side of veggies or rice and enjoy.

Tim Hortons and Post Cereals have collaborated to create Timbits Cereal in Canada. It is mind blowing but I’m so excited to have Tim Hortons part of my morning cereal routine. From quick research online, it looks like there are 2 flavours – chocolate glazed and birthday cake. We were only able to find the Birthday Cake version.

Where to find them

I’ve been hunting for this cereal and my friend spotted the Timbits Cereal Birthday Cake at Costco in a whopping 1kg box. In particular, this was at the Port Coquitlam Costco as the other Costco locations in Burnaby and Vancouver did not carry it. I tried looking at a few other local grocery stores but no luck either. Seems like this has been one of the first sightings on the West Coast.

You can find the 1kg Timbits Cereal Birthday Cake in the cereal aisle. It costs $8.99 per box.

**Update** Both Timbits Cereal Birthday and Chocolate Glazed can now be found at Safeway, Sobeys, and Fresh Co. across Canada at select locations in 326g boxes.

What’s inside the box

Inside the box, there are 2 x 500g packets of all the little ‘birthday cake timbits’.

At 500g per bag, it’s pretty big, but then again, it’s Costco. I’m sure smaller boxes will be rolling out to grocery store shelves soon. I just couldn’t wait, so I got this big box.

Taste Test

When you pour it out of the box, there is a strong vanilla aroma reminiscent of Birthday Cake. As we ate this with milk, the vanilla is strong with a buttery finish. It does taste like birthday cake, so they got that spot on.

It’s on the sweeter side of cereal, but not as sweet as Lucky Charms. If you’re a Tim Hortons fan, this is worth a try, but I don’t think you’ll be switching your usual cereal over to this.

Once you’re done the cereal, you specks on confetti is in the milk and the cereal gives it a nice sweet finish.

Nutrition Facts

Final Thoughts

This is a fun item for Tim Hortons fans to see the iconic Timbits turned into cereal. Seriously, who wouldn’t want that? Canadians have been wanting to get their hands on this cereal, but it doesn’t seem to be rolling out to all major grocery stores yet. Perhaps its because it’s December or they’re just testing the market. Nonetheless, this might make an appearance soon to grocery store shelves.

If you’re looking for fun ways to utilize the cereal, someone suggested making marshmallow square out of this, just like how you would make rice crispy squares. It would seem great to have Timbits cereal bars.

Nespresso has created their holiday capsule collection around the Nordic culture and influences. As Scandinavian-inspired cultural trends like Hygge have been quite popular in the last year. They have partnered up with renowned Danish designer, Louise Campbell, to create a range of limited edition Original and Vertuo coffees, which take design and flavour inspiration from the Nordic countries.

We were sent the Vertuo coffee – Nordic Black, Nordic Cinnamon Swirl, and Nordic Vanilla Princess Cake to try.

Nordic Black

150ml | Intensity 5

For those who love original long black coffees, they have created the Nordic Black. It makes a light-bodied long black coffee with a medium intensity, but you can always add some milk and sugar to make it smoother.

It isn’t too acidic and it is smooth and has some subtle sweet notes. There are hints of cereal and spice in the aftertaste. This was my favourite of the 3 pods as I prefer my coffees unflavoured.

Nordic Cinnamon Swirl

230ml | Intensity 5

The Nordic Cinnamon Swirl brings together a smooth aroma of cinnamon bun notes, and medium intensity of a half Caffeinato blend.

This is a flavoured coffee and on its own, I personally didn’t like it as much. When paired with a sweet treat like a cookie, it’s better.

Nordic Vanilla Princess Cake

230ml | Intensity 5

Nordic Vanilla Princess Cake is based on the iconic Swedish green cake, Prinsesstårta, featuring an indulgent creamy vanilla taste, marzipan sweetness and subtle hint of raspberry paired with the smooth and medium intensity of a Half Caffeinato blend.

Similar with the Cinnamon Swirl, I didn’t like it black. The vanilla and raspberry notes really shined through when eating something sweet as well.

Final Thoughts

It’s an interesting collection that blends a taste of Scandanavia into coffee format. As the holidays are filled with sweet goodies, they have crafted flavoured coffees like the Cinnamon Swirl and Nordic Vanilla Princess Cake that pair well. If you’re more traditional, the Nordic Black is more for you. I’m personally more traditional too.

There are also Nordic Almond Cake and Nordic Cloudberry available for the original machine. We have only reviewed the capsules for the Vertuo machine.

Zojirushi Stainless Steel Mug

Metal Straws

You can probabaly find this at most malls or online, but with cities banning disposable plastic straws at eateries and cafes, metal straws are very trendy at the moment. We have a few and we did notice that there is a metal tang taste to it, so you have to wash it a few times to get rid of that. There are also silicone, pasta, bamboo, and many other straw options as well.
