WahhTee-outer

Wahh Tee Burmese Restaurant is close to Joyce Station in Vancouver. My mom has been searching for a good authentic Burmese restaurant for a long time as she spent part of her childhood there.

Burmese cuisine is actually quite interesting as it takes influences from India, Thailand, China, and Laos. So, when you take a look at their menu, don’t be surprised to see samosas here.

WahhTee-inner

The restaurant seats about 16 people and only has 4 tables. We came here at 2pm, so it was quite dead, but we did see a few people do take out.

WahhTee-tealeafsalad

Myanmar Tea Leaf Salad ($5) has fermented tea leaves mixed with assorted fried beans. This is one of my favourite dishes! The fried beans give an amazing texture to the salad. There’s not a lot of tea leaves, but man, those beans are crunchy.

WahhTee-noodlesalad

Noodle Salad ($5) has white flour noodles mixed with shrimp powder, tamarind sauce, bean powder, shredded cabbage, onions, and cilantro. It comes with a bit of soup on the side. This was really good! The flavours are really amazing! My little sister wanted to eat this all to herself.

WahhTee-fishnoodle-med

Spicy Fish Noodle Soup (Large – $7.50) has rice noodle with fish broth, banana tree root, lemongrass, and cilantro. It was really good! It isn’t very spicy either but the broth was quite nice. I love the crunch of the fried bean crisps.

WahhTee-fishnoodle-small

Spicy Fish Noodle Soup (Medium – $5.50) just a tad smaller, but still delicious.

WahhTee-spicynoodle

Fish Noodle Soup (Medium – $5.50) was good too but was a bit bland, but they did provide some spicy peppers to add in. Man, adding those peppers made it hotter than the Spicy Fish Noodle Soup. The spicier the better! Mmm Mmm MMMM!

WahhTee-samosa

Deep Fried Vegetable Samosa was 6 pieces for $5. It comes with some spicy sauce on the side. It came super hot but once it cooled down it very delicious.

WahhTee-friedrice

Beef Fried Rice ($8) uses jasmine rice the dish was quite bland by itself, but with the addition of some curry, it tastes pretty good.

WahhTee-salad

The fried rice came with a mini salad with spicy sauce.

WahhTee-shrimpcurry

Shrimp Curry ($8) we didn’t get the rice to do with this since we had the fried rice already, so we ate it together.

Overall, the dishes were very cheap and affordable. The noodle dishes and salads are pretty darn delicious! This passed my mothers taste test, so it must be good.

keg-alberni

The Keg Steakhouse + Bar has been around since 1971 and now has locations all across Canada and select states. They specialize in tender, juicy steaks, slow roasted prime rib, shellfish, and desserts.

M and I go to The Keg to celebrate all our anniversaries. On this particular day, it was our 1 year wedding anniversary, so as per all our special traditions, we come to the Keg to have a steak. It’s a chill environment to just enjoy our company together, chow down on steak and have a few drinks.

keg-inner

Our server was quite nice and asked us if we were celebrating a special occasion. We weren’t dressed up fancy, but yes, we were celebrating our anniversary. Of all the times we’ve dined at The Keg on our dating anniversaries, this was the first time anyone has asked!

The waiter said because we were celebrating such a grand moment, we would be getting a Billy Miner Pie on the house, so we should save room for it.

keg-menu

Their menu is pretty standard, but prices are slightly higher. I would say about $2 more from what I noticed.

keg-plates

We found a smaller menu on the side of the table and there’s more items! The prime rib burger sounds pretty good.

keg-starter

keg-snack

keg-beer

Heineken (Small $6.50) was a nice choice in size since I didn’t want too much beer.

keg-drink

Pepsi and Amaretto ($6.50) arrived at the table in 2 separate containers.

keg-pepsi-dis

M felt so sophisticated mixing the two together. Made him feel like a sir.

keg-bread

Complimentary bread arrived at the table like usual with whipped butter.

keg-prime-rib

Prime Rib (10oz – $27) is aged for extra flavour and tenderness, rubbed with their unique blend of spices and slow roasted. It is hand-carved and served with horseradish and red wine herb jus. M chose to have mixed vegetables as his side. It tasted good but it did have a fair bit of gristle.

leg-filet

Filet Mignon (7oz – $34) has the tenderloin wrapped in applewood smoked bacon and served with Bernaise sauce. The filet mignon is tender and so smooth. Once you have this, you can’t go back to any other cuts.

For my accompaniment, I had mixed vegetables.

keg-cake

Billy Miner Pie ($9) has mocha ice cream on a chocolate crust with hot fudge, caramel and almonds. Because it was our anniversary, this dessert was on the house. Very special touch from The Keg!

The pie was delicious, but it was pretty hard to finish with just 2 people. It’s a big slice of pie.

Overall, it was a great experience at the new Downtown location at Alberni above UrbanFare. After all our anniversaries spent at a Keg, we still like it.

stake-in

M and I wanted to spend a lovely Wednesday out at Stake to eat some steak. Of course, they serve much more than just steak. They have a variety of items that are inspired by local produce and west coast cuisine.

stake-inner

They have a special on Wednesday nights called the Hump Day Date Night Menu, which costs $49.99 per couple.

This includes:

Artisan Greens for Two

Dinner Platter for Two
Select two of your favourites served with silky mashed potatoes and sautéed baby vegetables

  • Pan-seared Spring Salmon
  • Braised Lamb Shank
  • BBQ Whiskey Glazed Beef Ribs
  • Free Range Chicken Breast
  • Pan-Seared Truffle Polenta

Dessert Platter for Two

  • Mango Cheese Cake
  • Chocolate Marquise

You can even do a few add-ons to the menu.

  • Bottle of Wine (+$20)
  • Pan Seared Garlic Prawns (+$10)
  • Pan Seared Scallops (+$10)
  • Stake-cut Onion Rings (+$8)
  • Roasted Mushrooms and Garlic with Fresh Thyme (+$8)
  • Glazed Golden Beets with Fresh Thyme (+$5)
  • Steam Asparagus with Lemon (+$8)

stake-hump-decor

There’s not too many people here on a Wednesday evening, but with the holidays coming up, the tables are nicely decorated.

stake-hump-bread

We stated off with complimentary bread and butter. It came with a good amount of slices. M and I couldn’t finish it all. We both just had one piece since we wanted to save room for the platter.

stake-hump-salad

Artisan Greens comes with Golden Ears Quark Cheese, walnut wafer, shaved carrots, roasted red pepper with a raspberry vinaigrette. We got 2 of these as part of the meal. It was a yummy simple salad.

stake-hump-coke

stake-hump-platter

The dinner platter arrived and M and I chose the Braised Lamb Shank and the Pan-Seared Truffle Polenta. There were 2 balls of mashed potatoes, carrots, beets, asparagus and gravy.  It was a good size for 2 people to share.

I found it was actually quite fun having it all on one platter. Instead of having our own individual meals, we had fun fighting who gets the last bite of lamb.

stake-hump-lamb

Braised Lamb Shank was very tender and fell apart beautifully. Mmm Mmm very delicious!

stake-hump-polenta

Pan-Seared Truffle Polenta looks like an omelette but it’s not. The polenta is very delicious and quite fluffy. One of the best polenta’s I’ve had so far.

stake-hump-onion-rings

We decided to add on the Stake-cut Onion Rings (+$8). The looked more like donuts than onion rings. It was very salty and had mostly batter. We didn’t like these very much.

stake-hump-cake

Mango Cheese Cake was very good! Whats not to like? Cheesecake is always a winner.

The Chocolate Marquise wasn’t very good this time. It was very hard to cut through. This was very different from the last time I had it.

Overall, the food was good but it was only the Chocolate Marquise and the onion rings that we didn’t like. Service was good and the food came out at a good speed.

creamy-lychee-jello-set

Lychees are amazing, lychees are delicious, and lychees even make great desserts. Growing up in an asian family, we always have cans of lychees in the pantry or when they are in season, my parents would always get a bunch from the grocery store.

The fresh lychees would taste amazing, but its always a pain peeling them and spitting out the black pits. I’ve come pretty close to swallowing them, and trust me, it’s not fun.

Lychees aren’t grown in BC, but you can find them in asian grocery stores around June or July. You’ll know its in season when all the middle aged ladies start fighting over them. Most of them are imported from other countries. Otherwise, you can just find the canned lychees all year around.

creamy-lychee-jello-ingredients

[tabs tab1=”Ingredients”]

[tab id=1]

  • 1 can of Lychee in Syrup (Remember to save the syrup!)
  • 2 pouches of gelatine
  • 1.5 cup Cream
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Sugar

[/tab]

[/tabs]

creamy-lychee-jello-can

creamy-lychee-jello-lychee

Slice the lychees into four wedges, so they are more bite size. Remember to save the lychee syrup! Thats the good stuff.

creamy-lychee-jello-geletine

Next, heat up the gelatin, lychee syrup, sugar, water and cream in a pot on the stove. Mix until it is all nicely combined together.

creamy-lychee-jello-beakers

I’ve learned to love using breaker for cooking! It’s such a life saver and a lot less mess. Plus, they are meant to be heated to high temperatures so it won’t crack.

creamy-lychee-jello-pour

Place the lychee bits in the bottom of the cup and then add the liquid potion on top.

Once they are all filled up, leave it in the fridge until they have set. This can take about an hour or 2.

creamy-lychee-jello-ready

In the end, you’ll end up with these cups of creamy lychee pudding. I like to use the clear cups because you can see everything inside, plus when you see the lychee at the bottom of the cups, you’ll definitely want to dig in.

mango-yummy-outer

Mango Yummy finally has a store front in Richmond. They may sound very familiar because they have stalls at the Richmond Night Market and the International Summer Night Market. Their store opened in October 2014 and serve up yummy asian desserts.

Of course anything with mango is super delicious. I came here with Food Queen, Dee and Nat from Gastrofork to catch up over yummy drinks.

It is located across from Richmond Center and has their own parking lot with free parking.

mango-yummy-inner

Their interior isn’t too large, but they have about 25 seats. We came here around 5:30pm, so it wasn’t too busy.

mango-yummy-menu3

Mango Drinks, Red Bean Drinks, Shaved Ice, Fresh Tofu Drinks, Milk Tea, and Green Teas.

mango-yummy-menu2

Lemonade, smoothies, fresh fruit slush, tea, ice cream floats, toast, crepes, and desserts.

mango-yummy-menu

They also have a variety of hot sweet soups. There’s only a handful of places in Richmond where you can find a good selection of these sweet soups. Mmmmmm Mmmmmm….

mango-yummy-original

Signature Mango Sago Grapefruit ($6) is their popular drink and it has everything you need to satisfy your mango cravings.

mango-yummy-tofu-mango

Tofu Mango Sago and Grapefruit ($7) I got this tofu dessert and it is quite similar to the signature drink above but with a lot of tofu. I love tofu and I could drink this all day. I totally could have ordered a few more.

mango-yummy-shaved-ice

Mixed Fruit Shaved Ice ($7) has a bit over everything like lychee, berries, watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapples, etc. It is even topped with vanilla ice cream.

mango-yummy-slush

Mango Slush ($5) can’t go wrong with this.

The winter is definitely getting colder, but your sweet tooth still needs to be satisfied with yummy mango desserts.
